But they're less expensive in the long run than over-the-counter condoms or prescription birth control pills, said Dr. Mary Ott, an adolescent medicine specialist and associate pediatrics professor at Indiana University. By contrast, IUDs typically work for three to 10 years after insertion, while implants typically last three years.

The new guidance was published Monday in Pediatrics. It echoes 2012 recommendations from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Yes I agree, but playing devil’s advocate, what about all the teen-aged pregnancies and the welfare train, abortions, and societal issues that creates? If you had to pick one ill to prevent would it be the sex or the pregnancies?

6. Require that opponents of abortion and birth control pay for them.
7. Make the use of contraceptives mandatory.
8. Enforce mandatory sterilizations and abortion.
