I have work there - my people have to travel there sometimes - some areas are not as bad as advertised. Have someone she knows meet her at the airport. She should only travel with those she knows and only stay at brand hotels.
Her friend has arranged transportation upon arrival, I am looking for any useful information to provide regarding what she should expect at airport etc.
Oklahoma, Missouri and Mexico are too dangerous. Try San Antonio...next best thing to being in Mexico.
I agree with the first two replies but if she must, go to youtube and search with the words mexico city tourist dangers
You don’t drink? Alcohol?
LOL
I might mention that when my relatives stayed in Mexico, they always stayed in Jalisco. They made absolutely sure they never went to Mexico City.
Finally the drug cartels began killing in Jalisco so they now go to Hungary every year. They love Hungary and have never had any problems there.
Asking for travel advice at FR? Good luck!
Don’t drink the water, only drink beer, eat lots of beans, you’ll fit in better.. Oh, and remember everyone who smiles at you is not your friend.
Oh, a wedding.
Well, she might be okay I suppose. Tell her to expect birria and circus music at the wedding and smog and high altitude the rest of the time. Every male at the wedding will make it his duty to try to get her clothes off.
Mexico City is violent and poor, unless she’s with the really rich. It’s about as bad as the south side of chicago all over the city except for the fortresses where the wealthy people hole up.
Well, I guess nothing is not optional except death...
Wedding of friend who is from Mexico City...wedding will be there, family is there, etc. daughter could opt out but is adamant on going, so I am trying to do my best to keep her safe as possible. Wedding guests are staying at hotel, have group transportation to church, etc. just looking fof some good travel guides/ advice on procedures/what to look for at airport.
if she has arranged transport she’ll be ok, it’s normal entry procedures (reason for visit, stamp, anything to declare, ok) - just tell her to keep her head on a swivel.
Tons of people travel to Mexico every day with no problems, the trick is to stay in the secured zones and not wander off.
Come to L.A.
It’s like Mexico — only a little cleaner.
I am not thrilled with her going (understatement). She is in her mid 20s, so not my call to insist she not go...she is an adult. I am just trying to do best to give her info to keep her safe as possible.
LOL, I will while she is gone ;(
DON”T GO !!!!!!
How old is she and what is her travel experience?
My son was in a wedding in Puerto Rico and the bride’s family took care of everything, from the arrival to the departure and they were there for almost a week.
.
Well, I am looking for blogs, etc. Most of the info I have seen here, I have already passed on. I drove thru Mexico several times years ago, so I am not unaware, just bee a long time since I have been south of the border.
Talk show host George Noory narrowly escaped being kidnapped a couple of years ago when he accepted a limo ride from his resort in Cabo to the airport, from a limo service the resort had arranged for him.
It's nothing like our TSA. They will size her up quick and let her through with best wishes. Tell her to schedule any outdoor activities within the first 3 days because by day 4 she will need to stay very near a toilet, day and night.
