FULL TITLE: Teen mom drove with 5-month-old baby in trunk to avoid getting ticketed for not having a car seat
A young mother was arrested early Tuesday after she put her 5-month-old baby into the trunk of her car, to avoid getting a ticket for not driving with a car seat.
Broward County, Florida sheriff's deputies first spotted 19-year-old Breona Synclair Watkins driving a car with a headlight out around 1am, when she pulled out 15 feet into an intersection at a red light, and then backed up.
They then attempted to pull her over, but she continued through the green light and another quarter-mile before coming to a stop.
The 14-year-old sitting in the passenger seat said the 2005 Dodge Stratis belong to her mother.
When another deputy showed up and heard crying from the trunk, so they opened it up and found Watkins' 5-month-old laying on a pair of large hedge-cutting shears.

This obviously goes to far and the woman displayed an extreme lack of judgment and disregard for her child, but every time I read a story like this I can’t help but think back to my childhood where me and other kids were driven around in the back of a pickup truck. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but now days, it would be labeled child abuse.
Oh when we were kids we went without seat belts. Our mom held us as babies on her lap while dad drove. In the back of a pickup? Oh yea but dad did not drive drunk or like a lunatic.
Putting a baby in a trunk? Now that I never heard until now.
I was in cars where dad had a few (with a beer between his legs while he drove). Also, the driver of the pick up truck would swerve sometimes to make us kids slide around in the bed, at our urging, of course. Looking back, I know its really dangerous but at the time, I didn't think anything of it.
Government interference sets people free? no, it encumbers them with regulations that create fear when not in compliance, (which this young gal was “afraid” of being caught without a car seat for her child).... and servitude.
“WOW! There are places that will GIVE you a car seat if you are unable to afford one.”

Why? If someone can afford a car they can afford a car seat.
.
Unintended consequences of do-gooder nanny laws.
You are driving around, at 1 am, with a headlight out, with a 14 year old, in her mom's car, ignoring traffic signals, with your baby in the trunk, lying on a pair of rusty garden sheers, with a gas can.....
Did I miss anything?
Please tell me she was drunk or drugged because there is no way someone should get in this type of situation without the help of intoxicants.
At the very least, remove the garden shears from the trunk. What are people thinking!
There are programs everywhere that give away car seats for free to those that can’t afford to buy one.
They would have to give an awful lot of them away free to help the working poor. I had no idea they were so expensive until I saw the one at Walmart— and I suspect a lot of that expense is liability insurance.
Breona?
A Holder hominid
Why? If someone can afford a car they can afford a car seat.

Although I agree with that statement, regardless there are places that loan or give one. For safety sake.
We used to stand up on the front passenger seat, or lie down in the rear window shelf.
There was a time when the cop would have roll his eyes, shook his head in disbelief, gave her a stern talking to, followed her home to ensure safety, and then would go to find her daddy to tell him what his daughter did, to make sure it happened no more.
I remember those days, and I liked it better.
When another deputy showed up and heard crying from the trunk, so they opened it up and found Watkins’ 5-month-old laying on a pair of large hedge-cutting shears.
It’s ok officer, we’re on our way to a bris?
They do give an awful lot of them away.
And you’re not allowed to leave the hospital with the baby unless you have one to put the baby in. So, what happened to the one she used to leave the hospital...
I’ll repeat slowly for the thinking impaired: there are places that will GIVE you one if you can’t afford one.
My folks just put us in a laundry basket and slowed down for the curves.
Stupid car seat laws...I HATE THEM.
