Would it be within military protocol for those two Marines to ask or challenge his ‘’salute’’ by refusing to drop theirs and remind or indicate to the C-in-C “Sir that is not the proper salute?

NO, as Obama did not have to return the salute. The insulting salute with a paper cup, head lowered, and he kept moving sid not show respect....and did he greet the soldier is unkown to me, that would have been all that was needed. As Commander in Chief I have trouble seeing them as civilians...although they are.

I was fortunate to serve under Pres Reagan who did return a salute, although they never have to do so, but all usually greet the soldier.

Being sarcastic in another post, I said a groundhog would make a better President...when I pass a groundhog on the road here eating kudzu, he stands upright and looks me in the eye, even in my car....at least he stands at attention until I get by him...lol
