Me, too. Contrary to popular belief, there is no requirement for the CIC to return a salute from a uniformed military person. I wish he would simply nod an acknowledgement and move on. Saluting is for men and women of honor. He has none.

That crap started around Reagan. It added to the myth of the ‘Presidency’. Eisenhower never saluted while CiC.
The increasing power and nature of the President is symbolized with the salute.

It must be ingrained from Obola’s past military service.
IIRC, I think that it was Reagan that made saluting by the President a “thing”. Although Reagan did have the military service, and the respect shown to the troops.

This is true, and I believe it was Reagan who began this practice, it was not done by anyone before him.
