40 Days for Life fall campaign: Join “the beginning of the end of abortion” in your city

Over the next 40 days, in 297 cities in 13 countries, there will be people standing outside their clinics. There will be people praying and loving women away from abortion. Tomorrow begins the launch of latest season of proving that love and prayer can end abortion.

Widely successful, the 40 Days for Life campaigns mark “the beginning of the end of abortion.” This fall’s campaign runs from Sept. 24- Nov. 2, and it’s never too late to join the fight and help end abortion in your region.

It’s also successful. Campaign Director, Shawn Carney, notes that in the past 7 years of the national campaign:

“Through God’s grace, 40 Days for Life has seen these miracles over the past seven years:

8,973 lives spared from abortion (that we know of)

101 workers have changed their hearts and left the industry

57 abortion centers have shut their doors forever

12 additional abortion referral centers have also closed”

Starting Wednesday, those numbers will begin to rise as abortions fall. And it is all because some ordinary people join together in prayer and loving actions to help save lives of babies, give hope to women, and steer abortion workers to other jobs. Starting Wednesday, the decision by a few people to give up anywhere from an hour a week to many hours every week could literally help bring life where death may have existed.

The first 40 Days for Life started in Bryan/College Station, Texas just 10 years ago, as a local effort. That abortion clinic, the same one Abby Johnson walked out of to end her abortion career, is now closed. And it’s not the only one. By 2007, 40 Days for Life had become national in focus; now it’s international.

The profound success of 40 Days for Life is in its simple focus:

“40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40 day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.”

And it’s for everyone who wants to get involved. The 40 Days for Life website will help you find a local location at which to participate. If you’re fortunate enough to be too far from an abortion facility to participate that way, you can still be involved by praying and fasting, and subscribing to updates to keep on top of the situation. You can post these updates on social media and help bring awareness and a testimony of love for those trapped in this industry. 40 Days for Life is a ministry that reaches out not only against the death of abortion for for the life of those involved.

It’s never too late to contact a local campaign and join the fight. Some local campaigns pray around the clock all 40 days, so there is always a time and need. Contact 40 Days for Life for more information, and become one of more than 625,000 volunteers who have helped save thousands of lives.

From my experience...

Standing on the street with a cold wind blowing, did not seem to be anything happening in the blue building, feeling a bit sorry for myself, wanting to get warm.

Then

A dark haired young woman approached me from the convenience store parking lot. I said, “Hello.” She spoke not a word, but extended a hand to shake. She silently looked into my eyes, then handed me a note.

“24 years ago my mother went to a place like this because she thought she was too young and she couldn’t financially take care of me. She saw people like you and stated crying and drove away. 9 months later, she had me. I want to thank you all for what you do and what you stand for. Because of people like you, I’m alive. 2 weeks ago I saved a 3 year old from getting hit by a truck. If I hadn’t pulled him away he would have died. So in a way people like you saved his life too. Keep it up. Pass it along. God bless you all and God bless America.”

Suddenly, I did not feel the cold.

We’re almost two weeks into this 40 Days for Life campaign and we have more good news to share. So far … there have been 86 babies saved from abortion – that we know of.

Praise God!

Memphis, Tennessee

Kathy in Memphis sent a quick note with great news: “Three babies saved!”

A volunteer spoke to a young couple who were on their way into Planned Parenthood. They listened, but kept on going into the building. Before too long, though, they came back out.

“We took the young couple into the mobile unit, and they saw the ultrasound,” Kathy said … and the baby was saved.

A vigil participant said she had just arrived for her prayer shift when a woman walked out of Planned Parenthood and announced that she would not be going through with the abortion. A short time later, volunteers reported a third woman also decided to turn away from Planned Parenthood.

Wilmington, Delaware

“I am happy to report,” Julie said, “that two little lives have been saved from abortion at the Planned Parenthood in Wilmington!”

One woman told counselors she had to abort her baby for the sake of her other two children – she didn’t think she could handle another. The volunteers gave her information about a nearby pregnancy center … and bus fare to get her there. She seemed quite relieved. "Thank you for being here,” she said. “I'm not going to do it!"

Volunteers drove another woman to the pregnancy center after telling her she had better options. “She was under a lot of pressure to abort,” Julie said, “and said if she could just get some help she would choose life for her baby”

A young man who joined the vigil confided that during a previous campaign, his wife was having pregnancy complications and made an appointment for an abortion – and she threatened to call the police if he tried to stop her.

So he prayed, asking the Lord to show his wife a sign at the abortion center that would change her mind.

Of course, when she got there, she saw people praying and realized that she was about to make a terrible “choice.” Their son is now 10 months old.

“He was so grateful that we had been there,” Julie said. “He wanted to join us and perhaps help save someone else's child.”

Germantown, Maryland

A young man rode up on a bicycle and stopped to talk to a volunteer. He said that when he and his wife were expecting their third child, and had seriously discussed the idea of abortion because of family finances.

He said that they saw people standing in prayer outside the abortion center ... and that made them think about what they were about to do. Their baby girl is now one month old.

“You never know what impact you will have,” said Andrew in Germantown. “The simple act of standing on the sidewalk and praying for an end to abortion can save a life.”
