Went to Philipe’s in Los Angeles with my family about a decade ago. I looked up and a few tables over was Louis Nye.
I hadn’t seen the guy in at least 30 years. (since I had been in my early teens) I recognized him immediately. I went over and said hi. He had been out of mainstream show business for decades. I thought he’d get a kick out of a fan remembering him and coming over to acknowledge him.
He did.
I’d only seen him in bit parts in 1940s and early 50s movies. He was always a whiner sad sack. It was hilarious the way he used to portray it on film.
You mentioned not remembering past generations of actors, and that popped into my mind. I’ve never forgotten it. Him either for that matter. He served up some great laughs to me (and other members of the public) about half a century ago.
I do remember him. How neat to get to meet him in person.
Louis Nye was a REALLY funny guy! Thanks for reminding me!
I ran into John Larroquette at the Grove Park Inn in 1994. A time he was at the top of his game.
Went up to him to tell him how much I admired his work.
He blew me off.
Never watched anything he was in again.
