You know, I have a Dutch oven that I received a few years ago at Christmas. I’m embarrassed to say that I have never used it. I thought the boys/men would use it when camping but it just sits on our shelf. Thank you for that reminder! And the link you gave has a link to the fireplace crane. That may be exactly what I need. One of the fireplaces we have is larger than the other and might work great for this. Thanks so much! I’m going to go print some Dutch oven recipes to start experimenting.

You’re very welcome.

I still remember the chili my grandmother would cook over her fireplace in the winter. My grandmother was VERY tight with a penny and if the fireplace was already lit she was loathe to crack up her electric stove. So lots of times she’d cook whatever was for supper over the fire in the afternoon. Chili, stew, you name it.

You’d be surprised how many such prep supplies you already have stuffed in the back of a closet. Go through the house like you’re doing a garage sale or a major spring cleaning. Before you put anything in the trash, think how it could be used in prepping. All that unused sports equipment may have a use. Consider alternative uses for the kids’ kits for this or that. Those old student backpacks, keep them for small emergency packs for those who can’t carry huge ones. Don’t forget about entertainment with board games and arts and crafts.
