ATLANTA — This is one shot even the great Rory McIlroy had no chance to hit.
His golf ball landed in a spectator’s pocket.
McIlroy’s tee shot on the 14th hole of the Tour Championship on Friday drifted to the right, clattered into a tree and dropped straight down. A dozen or so fans tried to figure out where it was before one man realized it was in the front right pocket of his shorts.
The world’s No. 1 player was entitled to a free drop under Rule 19-1-a - “Ball in motion stopped or deflected by an outside agency” - and rules official Robby Ware first had to make sure the man had not moved from when he discovered the ball in his pocket.
The tough part was how to get the ball out.
“I wasn’t going in there,” McIlroy said with a laugh...

In the second round of the 2014 TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, Rory McIlroy’s tee shot goes left into the trees and somehow lands in the pocket of a spectator on the par-4 14th hole. McIlroy would go on to two-putt for par.
Betchayur Bippie BO would have fished it out.
Without using his hands. Or feet.
Of course a ‘mere mortal would be unable to get that close to “TMN”.
I’ve heard of pocket pool, but pocket golf?

Second observation... must have been half a dozen official and unofficial videocameras following that ball. No indication at all about how the ball got in the shorts pocket?
Hmmmmmm.
Check the video in post #7, it looks to me like it’s very possible but a very rare occurrence.
He had three shots to get it right.

That was my next stop, looking for it now on the golf channel...
I love how golf has a rule for EVERYTHING.
Somebody will be getting a large fine. They will need a financial lifeline. They are too old so their favorite TV show shall be cancelled. They will have a squeeze put upon them. Their driveway will take some time to pave after this. They shall be dismissed with a look of disdain. Maybe they will finally jump after getting a good stretch.
