Teachers in the district earn on average $105,494, according to 2012 data — the most recent available from the State Board of Education.

Teachers, however, say the offer is so low that take-home pay will actually go down. Union spokesman Mike Palmquist tells us: “Under the board’s current offer, the take-home pay of nearly every teacher would be reduced. The teachers association is interested in keeping pace with comparable districts in order to attract and retain quality faculty.”

That’s been a theme from the union — that the excellent education kids receive will suffer dramatically if the school board has its way. The schools won’t be competitive enough to attract quality teachers and maintain programs.

We find that hard to believe. A teacher opening in Hinsdale draws, literally, hundreds of applicants. The district has the luxury of choosing among accomplished applicants from dozens of top-notch schools. A one-year frozen tax levy in one of the state’s wealthiest districts is not going to derail educational excellence.

Keep in mind: Only a small fraction of the teachers threatening to strike actually live in the district — fewer than 50 of the nearly 400, according to Skoda. So of course the teachers want the levy to go up. They don’t pay taxes into it.

Skoda noted the timing of the notice from the union would allow a strike to begin right before the football game between Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central, which is also Hinsdale Central’s homecoming
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Whether that line is an aside or not, it is good to see they have the important priorities lined up.

They don’t like that 106K, maybe they will better enjoy the (wanted) $15 working for McD’s in what surely will be about a 25 hr wk - at least till the autorobotons show up to feed the few people left that are willing to spend 10 bucks for a big mac and small fries.

I haven’t been in a McD since one of their ‘strikes’ last year.
If management doesn’t have the gonads to FIRE the strikers than they don’t want my biz.

Haven’t been in a SubWay since MZBO seemingly worked out a healthy menu together.

All I need is a person that has “WIDE LOAD” tattooed on her butt telling me that I eat the wrong foods....

At least the kids tell them clowns to ‘shove it’ so I guess all isn’t lost.

No word on if their union dues would be reduced to help make up for the shortfall....

Just hearing the crickets now...

Funny how budget cuts never have to affect the union leadership...

Hey! That's my high school! Or, it was. HTHS, Central. Hinsdale is 13th wealthiest town, in the wealthiest county in the state. Combined with Oakbrook, which was also part of District 86, the teachers are really getting greedy.

I'm not sure how this is going to resolve. There is a LOT of Clout, (Money) in that community, and it's not always a good thing to piss off the Chicago power structure. There are any number of CEOs in that town, and they have never responded well to Leftist blackmail. It's not impossible that District 86 could break that union. There are thousands of teachers who would kill to teach there, where 98% are college bound, and the big discipline problem is parking for the all student's Lexus, Mustangs, Porches, Prius'.

:: west suburban Hinsdale ::

That’s hilarious!
They make it sound like Hinsdale is “white-flight removed” from the Southside.

Fire these “educators” who only “work” 8 1/2 to 9 months each year (not counting vacation days during the school year), get great benefits, reasonable salaries and great retirement. They won’t be missed.
