OK folks, I've got a new song out. This is also a country song, but not a humorous one. (Not intentionally, anyway.) Once again, I'd appreciate it if you'd give it a listen and an honest opinion, preferably in that order. The waaaaahmbulance is standing by.
A few quick notes:
1) I did indeed record the song as "Hopalong Ginsberg." No, that is not an autocorrected spelling of "Slings and Arrows."
2) Yes, I know what my voice sounds like, so let's get this out of the way:
3) If you like the song, or even if you just want to inflict it on an enemy, you can download the MP3 for free here. Or here. But not here.
4) To justify pinging my kitty ping list:
I made it to the 3:51 mark.
I gave up at the nerdy mole-guide.
Harder to keep in one’s pocket. Awesome, though.
Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison,
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in the pickup truck,
She got runned over by a damned old train
I really like the words and guitar playing.
And I like your voice a lot better than fakey professional voices belonging to narcissistic vile creatures with abhorrent personal lives and beliefs.
Thank you for the suggestions. I know about the ess problems, but not much I can do about them - I’m using GarageBand on my phone.
GB should have an EQ in it of some kind (I use Reaper and Sonar). Just find the frequency (likely 6-8K) that is giving you the grief and notch it. You might lose a bit of body but it’s a personal call on how much to cut.
Even a high shelf a couple DB down will help a lot.
Thank you very much. The guitar is synthesized, but the progression is my own composition. As far as my voice goes, if it improves my performance I’ll just have to lay off the cocaine and orgies. Ah, the sacrifices I make for my art.
You forgot the dog.
I’m not familiar with the tune. Got a link?
I had a better one a few years back that was the radio version. Here’ he is at some country fest back in the early 80s or late 70s judging by the clothes and hair.
Always loved the line
Puts on Sinatra and starts to cry.
I’m so there.
Of course, please add me to the Hopalong Ginsberg Ping List.
I’m listening again.
You really cover so many disappointments and wrongs.
Do you also play actual guitar, I would think so. The finger picking is simple yet very effective.
Thanks again.
I do play actual guitar, although mostly slide. Bluntly, the reason I use canned guitar is that I can program a track more quickly than I can play an acceptable version. (Although I may use real guitar in the future - who knows?)
You’re added. May G-d have mercy on your ears.
Thanks; I’ll give it a listen.
Oh, I have heard this one before - just never knew who the artist was. Good tune. Like the steel guitar.
“that singer was Stephen Bishop. On and On, could have been a country song....no?”
Amazing song. Easily could’ve been country, especially with its beach backdrop, something that Jimmy Buffet or Kenny Chesney would sing.
Speaking of Chesney, Bishop, and ‘On and On’, Chesney referred to it in a similar sad song called ‘A Lot of Things Different’.
The song is about regrets. When he describes what turned out to be the last dance he would ever have with a former lover, he says:
“If I would’ve known that was gonna be our last dance, I would’ve asked that band to play ‘On and On’, on and on.”
It is the most poignant part of a very poignant song.
When I was looking for the video, I saw a brief bio pop up on Google. I didn’t realize that Stephen Bishop is married to fhe actress Karen Allen, who was also in “Animal House”.
Oh, I love that movie!
Just spit and go back inside...
That was easy.
Karen Allen is pretty and cute. And a sexy raspy voice too. She held her ground well against Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I’m sure her husband Steven Bishop got some money for the placement of his ‘On and On’ song in the movie.
Will have to see the Animal House scene when bluto smashes the ‘On and On’ guy’s guitar.
