He testified that he was awakened by pounding on his doors and shot McBride - who was found to be extremely drunk - because he feared for his life. But a jury rejected his claim of self-defense.

Pounding on your door in the middle of the night? I would have called 911 immediately and NEVER opened the door.

Who writes these headlines? Why would anyone shoot a dead black 19- year-old?

He shouldn’t have opened the door, I agree.

If only one of the other homeowners whose houses she visited would have called 911, she would still be alive.

In the UK, an individual who is killed by a bullet is said to have been "shot dead."

If someone banging on your door and you are scared, don’t open it, call police.

If the person banging on your door opens your door, well then...

I would not have opened my door and fired outside my house.

That seems like a dangerous and stupid thing to do.

As I understand the story, everyone involved behaved stupidly. She crashed her car while drunk and was still drunk and erratic three hours later when she pounded on his door, at 2:30 am. He opened his front door to an erratic drunk and then fired his shotgun through the screen door rather than closing a solid door and dialing 911, again at 2:30 am. Both lives were ruined because of their stupidity. It’s sad how expensive the lessons are if you don’t learn from small mistakes when you’re younger.

Screw her, she drove drunk and crashed her car, she could have killed an entire family. Karma dealt her justice, good riddance.

Pretty OBVIOUS what the moral of the story is: DO NOT drink and drive.

It would have been a tough call for me, as I defer to the FACTS of a case, rather than the media hype.

...but in the end, it does appear that she was harmless, unlike Trevon or M. Brown, and she deserved to be treated that way. It still has to be tough, to have someone banging your door, but you really have to do two things in that case: Call 911, then get armed, but stand back until they get inside. Once inside, they are fair game.

Shooting someone outside is premature, unless they’re already firing inside (or are about to bust the door in).

The homeowner’s first mistake was living in Detroit. Other lapses in judgment followed.

It was not a ‘good’ shoot. Looking at all the facts his actions didn’t seem rational. I think he shot out of anger and not fear.

Public intoxication is illegal. Why do police arrest such people if they are “harmless”?

Pounding on a door is a belligerent act. Now you may call it knocking if you believe you know who lives there but once they establish that it is the wrong home, you are a trespasser to persist.
