It is exactly the power of calculus methods that makes exact computations so much easier than plodding add/subtract/multiply/divide in the grade-school paradigm. It helps if, through use, one has the numerical value of pi memorized.
But thanks. I didn't need your calculation. I knew immediately that from principle the amount needed was 2 x pi in feet. I converted the decimals (by resorting to a calculator) to inches. The mechanical doing of that was not necessary to get the concept. And the use of numbers based on calculus was achievable without pencil and paper.
The point is that wouldn't matter if the diameter of the earth was 2 feet or 100,00 miles. The numerical answer to your problem would be the same. You understand?
