Reclining seats were designed to be used when they didn’t cram 400 people onto a 737 originally designed to carry no more than 80 passengers. They just crammed another 50 or more seats onto the same airplane and just to piss people off even more, they kept the recliners.
It is damned rude to recline your seat so that your hair is falling onto the lap of the guy behind you.

My, showing a whole lot of hostility there, aren’t you. As long as there are reclining seats on airplanes, they are meant to be used for reclining. If you are uncomfortable with the person, male or female (this isn’t a gender thing, you know, although who knows, maybe to you it is), then don’t get on an airplane with rows close together. It’s your problem, not the person sitting in front of you. You aren’t recliner dictator for life, you know.
