I know that night was foggy and that is what they say caused the airplane crash, since JFK jr had planned to fly by instruments. Yet the crash bothered me when I heard about it.

He made it 90% to his destination, but decided to take a shortcut at the end which took him away from coastal lights that would have given him a visible horizon. And I believe it was hazy, not foggy.
