I carry concealed a nice glock .40. Fits female hand great, but want a short barrel home invasion shotgun loaded for bear. Any recommendations on a reliable, relatively light-weighted weapon? Brand? Model? Thanks!

At 14 she is old enough for some training and maybe mature enough for a little room security of her own (muffs too).
Work out a little code, not too complicated so you do not shoot each other.
Pick places where you will make a certain noise so you know who is coming. In all cases positive visual identification is necessary before engagement.

If you have not explored the penetration of a .223, you should. It is an eyeopener. It easily penetrated the flak jackets we wore in RVN, as well as thinner wood beams used in bunkers.
Lights are necessary, even critical. Weapon-mounted lights are a two-edged sword.
An invader who has come prepared to apply deadly force will be steady enough to get a round or two off at the light.
A weapon-mounted light is in front of your face ... not a good backstop.
Maintain your night vision and only use the light after action if you can manage it. A remotely operated light outside your safe room/bedroom that will backlight your adversary will do you more good than a weapon-mounted light in every situation.
If you do find yourself in a situation where you have your light on an adversary, do not take it from their eyes, even for a second. A strong light is a good weapon but your adversary will rabbit as soon as the light leaves their eyes and now you have to find them again... advantage to the adversary.

No. No troubles yet. But we usually live gated and are building a nice house/target in ungated. Nice area but I have a lot to protect (people, not stuff).
And by the way: If you own a semi-automatic rifle with a large-capacity magazine, like a thirty-round banana clip, never completely load it to its capacity. This puts stress on the spring mechanism, which would cause the firearm to jam just when you need it.

Way more compact than a shot gun, well balanced and the best close quarters weapon I have ever used.
Can be taken out of the house too. Fits nicely into a tennis bag (w/ CCW, of course) and is a serious motivational tool for drivers prone to road rage and the like.
Very low recoil and works well with 40 round magazines . Very popular with the ladies of the IDF
Does that go for a glock clip? I am surprised how often it jams...maybe 1 in 100 rounds. I always max out my clips.
You can also buy snake shot shells in 44 and 38. They also work for squirrels and small birds like quail at close range, though I don’t know if they’re legal for that. Their best bet is to get both!
I think I prefer the shotgun for “blind” blasting, as much as I hate to say that. I just imagine a dark room and slight noises and nerves and wanting a larger blast radius in inaccurate circumstances. But I’ll look into it, at least pick it up and get a feel for it. Thanks!

Bear spray and pepper spray containers all seem to be made to be portable. I think for in your home you could get a couple of cans of wasp/ hornet spray.
Cheaper, big cans, good range and you can use it on those insects, bad dogs and other critters.
Does the pistol handle eliminate painful kick? Is it easier to drop than shoulder fired? I assume accuracy is the drawback, but it’s not long-range target practice I’m after with a short barrel shotgun.
