I carry concealed a nice glock .40. Fits female hand great, but want a short barrel home invasion shotgun loaded for bear. Any recommendations on a reliable, relatively light-weighted weapon? Brand? Model? Thanks!
It’ll have stopping power? Not just Kill Bill 2 rock salt?
Worked on a special project a few years back and the one shot massively bruised the shooter and actually shot dislocated the shoulder of one of the the testers. Adapted a Knoxx Stock to it and no problems, even for a 110 lb test subject

A nice choice of ammo is the Winchester PDX1 round. Very effective and even if the perp is wearing a ballistic vest one shot center of mass will put him down and out of the fight just from the impact alone
door jambs, hinges, heads. Gotcha.
Got it. Knoxx Stock. Will look at Cabellas tomorrow.

This is the Marines ..according to Wikipedia shotgun of choice.
I gotta pay for that stuff myself.

first; get some electronic muffs and keep them right beside the bed. In any situation, put them on first, turned up. You will now hear scuffs on the carpet, breathing and quiet talking, rubs against the wall. A nice side benefit is that if you do shoot you will likely not be permanently deafened (as you surely will be if you touch off a shotgun round in a hall or confined space).
second; consider a pistol caliber carbine with a nice red dot. It does not make the cool sound of a shotgun slide but when defending your life cool is irrelevant. A pistol caliber carbine can be had in 9mm, 40 or 45, 45LC and 38/357. ALL of them are easier to get used to shooting, all of them are easier to hit with and as we all know hits are the only thing that counts.
third; When invasion is detected, send the dog and you get behind something, preferably bullet resistant with a telephone and a very bright flashlight close to hand. If the invader gets to where you are put the dot on them and begin your press/reset sequences until they are no longer in front of you. Then immediately call for an ambulance to get the poor lost soul some help because after all, you are not a murderer, you are in fear of your life and that of your family. Use the light to verify stillness in the invader.
Unless you have specific training in room clearing and practice it, seeking the invader is usually not a winning idea. Ambush is the way to go.
JMHO
Asking freepers to talk about guns is like asking a Jewish mother to talk about her son, the doctor.

The sound intimidation/deterrent is a myth. If I’m there to do you harm, I won’t be deterred by that. In fact you just told me where you are. My weapon aimed at you would go off on that noise.
They make them for a lot of different shotguns, not just Remingtons BTW
Well, you really shouldn’t do home invasions. It’s wrong, and a homeowner might shoot you first. But if you decide to anyway, an 870 is very hard to beat.
Thank you. That all makes sense, especially the muffs. But I have a gorgeous 14-year-old daughter upstairs. Not going to hide when I hear something. Will send the dog out, sweep and blast. Will get the muffs.
Bump for later
We ARE installing a tornado/SAFE room which I hope my daughter will get to in any emergency. Spare glock behind the safe in there and she knows how to use it...but it’s downstairs and she’s up.
Kel-Tec KSG?
Oh yeah, don’t forget a flashlight. Mine is on a rail with a pressure switch, but you can just duct-tape one to your barrel.
That looks heavy! Not more than $1,000.
What are you thinking? Never give a woman a shotgun for home protection. Even the lighter ones are heavy and cumbersome, and even large women have smaller hands than the average male. Also, the explosive recoil might knock her off her feet. Especially if she is a petite woman. And with a shotgun she gets off one shot. That’s it. She won’t have time to reload if there are multiple intruders. Your best bet is to get her a Ruger .223 Mini-14 with a 20-round clip. They’re lightweight and easy to handle, and they have almost no recoil. Back when I was a kid, they used to call it “the lady’s hunting rifle”.
