I try to do just about everything on Linux. After trying a bunch of distros I settled on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) with the Cinnamon desktop.

I have my tried and true Windows XP desktop but it’s no longer connected to the internet.

Ubuntu works very well. I’m running it on my desktop and laptop (Dell Latitude E6400).

If you've been running Linux for awhile and have been installing updates all along, you may have amassed a collection of old Linux headers/modules/images

These headers etc. take up space on your hard drive.

You can remove them all by opening up a terminal window and copying/pasting the following in there:

dpkg -l 'linux-*' | sed '/^ii/!d;/'"$(uname -r | sed "s/\(.*\)-\([^0-9]\+\)/\1/")"'/d;s/^[^ ]* [^ ]* \([^ ]*\).*/\1/;/[0-9]/!d' | xargs sudo apt-get -y purge
