Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett and other politicians have signed a statement calling on the Discovery Channel to drop the series “Amish Mafia.”
The statement says “Amish Mafia” is a “bigoted portrayal” of the religious sect and misrepresents the Amish in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County as a “crime-ridden culture.” …

If TV shows are meant to entertain, then how come I rarely watch TV? Looks to me like the conflation of “entertainment” with “titillation” is what has broken the medium.

Because a silly show about fake Amish criminals is SOOOOO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than, like, having a rogue PA State Attorney General who refuses to prosecute a bunch of corrupt fellow Philly Democrat politicians - CAUGHT ON VIDEO and AUDIO TAPE...
...or, maybe, a rogue PA State Attorney General who blatantely disregarding PA state law by refusing to prosecute ANOTHER rogue Dem County Clerk for issuing same-sex marriage licenses while it was illegal....
...or a rogue PA State Attorney General arbitrarily abrogating a long-standing reciprocity agreement on concealed carry with other states because she’s an anti-2nd Amendment activist....
...or a rogue PA State Attorney General who refuses to defend PA Law in Defense of Marriage Act cases...

Not really. But Governor Tom is so far behind in the polls, anything helps. There are some brands of Amish around here who actually vote.
I have no idea-we all like something different-I don’t judge what others like or do not-I like BBC, the science channel and H2 mostly-but I do like “Deadliest Catch”...
If a movie or a non-reality series is titillating, I’m okay with that-I watch a series now and then, like Longmire, or Tyrant, and a couple of novelas on telemundo-I’m bilingual, but if I were not, they would still be entertaining and funny...
That might be a worthwhile endeavor...

Unless the polls are wrong, and the PA GOP in it’s absolutely “stellar wisdom” knows something the rest of us don’t.
All reality shows are terrible, but if the show is a fake, then why should the governor care? It isn’t because he cares about the Amish; he cares about the huring the tourism business. People think the Amish are “cute” and come to see them much like they visit a zoo.
Actually, the Amish are a cult, but that’s their business.
