WAUKESHA, Wis. As parents get their children ready to go back to school, getting them vaccinated is probably on the list.
A popular shot for young girls is the HPV vaccine, but a Waukesha mother said her daughter died hours after getting the shot.

Oh for Pete’s sake, what college in Ohio
Cervical cancer is not a punishment, neither is any multitude of undesirable consequences that occur from having sex outside of marriage. It is frequently prudent to be cautious about the safety of medications. The risk benefit ration for most who receive the HPV vaccine is good, however there will be cases of adverse events and it is not unreasonable for parents to be cautious.
That being said, remaining a virgin before marriage is something that will result in a happier adult child, which is something that all parents wish for their children and being cautious regarding the HPV vaccine is in no way similar to honor killings, and marrying off 13 year olds to 50 year old pedophiles.
FReepMail!
Thank you
I just wish she had given it more thought and then not do it.
Exactly. I am pro-vaccine EXCEPT for this baby. Nope, not this one folks.
Well if that is the case then you would have a soap box to stand on. However, that is not the whole picture is it. Lets run through the numbers and get to some FACTS.
1) There are more than 100 strains of HPV
2) There are a little more than 30 of these that are transmitted by sexual activity
3) Of that 30, there are 10 strains that can, IN RARE CASES, lead to the development of cervical cancer.
4) of these 10 strains that cause cervical cancer, Gardisil only protects against 4 strains.
5) Further, these four strains to not cause all cervical cancers.
So the reality is, 70% of the 4% of all HPV viruses. So the REAL math is 0.028% of all HPV viruses.
Thank goodness your daughter is more worried about her kids getting cancer than she is about scare stories about vaccines.
"Big Pharma", as you put it, loses money every time a disease is prevented by vaccine. Hospital stays, IVs, ICU beds, etc., all cost WAY more than vaccines.
Why do you hate so much for people to make money, anyway? Shouldn't a profit-hating socialist like yourself be on DU or something?
And now for the rest of the story ...
99% of all cervical cancer is caused by HPV. Two of the 100+ forms of HPV (16 & 18) cause 70% of all cervical cancer. Two of the 100+ forms of HPV (6 & 11) cause 90% of all genital warts.
The Gardasil HPV vaccine protects against several high-risk strains of HPV, including types 16 & 18 and 6 & 11.
Thank you.
So she got that one and that was it, because it made me look up stuff on the internet.
A sore throat could be bacterial, and bacterial infections can kill quite quickly. A staph infection, followed by toxic shock, maybe.
It would be interesting to find out the cause of death, but I doubt it will be publicized. Anti-vaxxers love to try to scare people about vaccines--a story like this that they can use to insinuate that the girl somehow died of the vaccine is made-to-order for them.
Yep.
There is not a nurse out there who would vaccinate a septic child/teen.
A friend of mine nearly died last year from Epiglottitis. He had a sore throat one afternoon while at work and thought he was coming down with a cold. Woke up in the middle of the night with his airway nearly completely cut off due to swelling.
The ER docs pumped him full of steroids and antibiotics, while standing next to his bed ready to intubate him...fortunately the drugs worked quickly.
We have also had a few cases of bacterial meningitis around here that have killed in an alarmingly fast manner. A couple of years ago, a college student attended his classes through the afternoon (seeming normal to his classmates)...and died in the emergency room that evening.
It is shocking how fast something deadly can “come on.”
Why anyone would avoid a vaccine that protects against CANCER is beyond me. It’s an answer to a prayer; I keep hoping that they will find similar causes/vaccines for other types of cancers so that we can reduce the incidence of that awful disease.
My friend's beautiful daughter went bowling with her boyfriend, pulled a muscle, Mom took her to the doctor and got a shot of some painkiller. Girl died from it within 24 hours. Mom won a product liability case but could never stand to spend a cent of it.
Friend is now dead and gone, and I don't remember what the painkiller was doubt it's on the market any more, as there were other cases.
Point is, pharmaceutical drugs do kill people. In fact, legal drugs kill more people than illegal drugs do. Of course, they are misused in most cases. But something like Provigil can be as addictive as cocaine.
No, it is highly unlikely that the vaccine had anything to do with her death, and far more likely that whatever was giving her a sore throat killed her.
Certainly, a drug (like a painkiller) that targets or blocks a signaling or metabolic pathway can have some very serious side effects due to consequences of the pathway being blocked, effects of non-target pathways being impacted, and the effects on the liver and kidneys which must remove the drug from the body.
A vaccine, however, is not a drug with pharmaceutical action. There are different kinds of vaccines, but what they all have in common is that they contain a pathogen or part of a pathogen that cannot cause an infection. When the body sees the piece of pathogen, the immune system responds just like it would to the real living pathogen. Since the immune system has a memory, it remembers that piece of pathogen so that if the real thing comes along later, the body recognizes and kills it before it has a chance to cause illness.
There is a world of difference between a vaccine containing a bit of protein and a drug designed, for example, to block nerve signaling.
In general, I do not advocate putting foreign substances of any type into one's body without a compelling medical reason to do so, but I do advocate the use of vaccines to prevent diseases. Vaccines don't expose the body to anything that it can't be exposed to through natural means.
So, what do you think happens when mothers take their children in for an HPV vaccination? That they leave the doctor's office, hand their kids a pack of condoms, and tell them to go have a good time?
Once again, the HPV vaccine must be given to virgins, because once they become sexually active, it is too late to protect them--they are already exposed. Face it, teens have been having sex since long before the HPV vaccine was invented, they aren't suddenly becoming sexually active just because they were protected against some cancers when they were 12.
Even if a girl is a virgin when she gets married, her husband might not be. Or she could get divorced, or be raped, or pick up HPV in a non-sexual manner. You can't predict the circumstances where she will be exposed, but she almost certainly will be. About 75% of people catch HPV in their lives. It's nearly 100% if you count common skin warts.
They continued to be sexually active, but with less chance of pregnancy.
Rarely, chicken pox can kill, and the chance of that increases with age. It can cause stroke in children. If a pregnant woman gets chicken pox, it can cause birth defects in the fetus, mostly neurological. Once you get chicken pox, the virus survives in your body for the rest of your life. Shingles is quite painful, and the pain sometimes does not go away when the rash clears. Shingles can cause blindness if it erupts in the optic nerve.
Infectious diseases often cause permanent tissue damage. Personally, I'd rather not take the risk.
