That is from
Oxygène, his 1977 breakthrough album. I was fourteen when it was released, and never heard of him. At the time, an exchange student from West Berlin was staying with us and he was already a fan; he bought it here within a week of the release and played it on our stereo. I was hooked for life.
Starting tomorrow evening I will be doing a Jarre-themed weekend that will include one of his concerts, a documentary about his life and work, and a collection of videos both official and unauthorized. You can find them by search the keyword "ModernMusic", or if you prefer I can add you to the Modern Music Ping List and ping you as they're posted.

I love Vitamin String Quartet and Vitamin Baroque. How they transform modern music (usually metal and progressive rock, but also all genres)into classical music is a thing of beauty.
I've also had a fondness for Manowar's "Flight of the Bumblee." That was epic.
