Mitch Kirsch got up before dawn Wednesday to use the bathroom in his Santa Clara Street home when he bumped into the intruder.

"He was right in front of me," Kirsch said. "I'm naked the whole time so it was a little awkward."

Kirsch grabbed the man, forced him to drop a laptop he clutched and then let him go.

"I don't really want to hold on to this guy for 10 minutes naked," Kirsch said.

After the burglar ran off, another break-in happened two houses down and police suspect it was the same man. He was described as white, about 5 foot 8 and 135 pounds.

In a one-week period at the end of July, police said they recorded more than 30 property crimes in Venice.

"I was so glad this guy wasn't armed," said Izumi Hamagaki, Kirsch's girlfriend.

"My gun is with me always. And there is a weapon within easy reach as well."

This is my rifle and this is my gun. One is for fighting and the other is for fun.

So when you are going to the bathroom naked in the middle of the night, you have a gun on you? Within easy reach is a relative term, but no way can you grab a gun when standing on any given square foot within your home, unless your furniture and walls are made of guns.

I didn’t say “gun”. I said “weapon”.

You idiot. Hold on to him for 10 hours if that's what it takes. He could have killed someone/s at the second break in because you were too worried about what people might think with you not having on your pants. He's out on the streets and next time might be armed.

In which case your hands could count as well, so the naked guy may yet have been armed.

...and soiled pants.

Seriously, if you’re a fat, hairy, naked guy and you catch a burglar maybe you should just shuffle towards them with your arms outstretched, smile (and maybe drool a bit) mumbling “Hug!”

Sad to hear you’re so insecure in your own bathroom.

Because they both should have been armed.

Well sure, I'm always armed before dawn when I go to the can...

“I don’t really want to hold on to this guy for 10 minutes naked,”

I’m suspect that the feeling was mutual.
