A whole helluva lot different in temperament than any pit bull I've ever been around or seen. The pit-bulls-as-nanny-dogs myth is a sad and malevolent fantasy, debunked not just by common sense and understanding of breeding, but by stubborn facts right here.
Friend of mine had, I believe he said bull mastiffs, he had two of them. Rarely saw on their feet, they were super calm since what the 2 hundred pound door stops did, was sleep. Friendly when briefly awake though.
Only had limited exposure to pits thru the guy I helped train dogs with. It was the family pet and he had small kids and never had a problem. The dog would come outside with us and playtime was his owner pulling down a large branch on a tree overlooking a slope. The dog would grab the branch, the owner would let go, and dog and branch would swing out over the slope. The dog would hang on for roughly 5 minutes or more then drop ten feet to the ground. The pit would run back up and do it all again. First couple of times it was interesting to see how long she could hold that branch, after that it was kind of boring. She was just a playful, sweet dog.
I did know a guy who trained his pit to fight and saw a machine he used to train with. I did not know what it was and asked and he told me how it worked, after hearing how it worked I could see how you could intentionally turn any breed into an easily provoked attack animal.
The Nanny Dog story I read some years ago and it was said to be common practice in Victorian times. The animal control lady said that any pit that she had met without the Cuban strain in it, she would have no problem taking into her home around her small children. She said it was fairly wide spread among pits in the US by men with penis size issues.
I have been bitten once in my life by one of two German shepherds I had raised from pups. They were litter mates and had gotten in a bad fight over a female shepherd and I thought they would never bite me. I reached in for a choker collar and was rewarded with a cut that took 6 snitches to close. Middle finger right hand, almost took it off and since I do use it quite often would have missed it, never would have thunk it but it did happen. Dogs tend to like me and often roll over on their bellies when I approach them. Course I know how to approach and I am also an alpha, they sense that quickly.
I see the same stories as you but I also know almost any breed can be made vicious. I would also like to say that the cops don’t like them or apparently any other breed, and so I take the news stories as propaganda when coming from the MSM. I personally think a breed that doesn’t like cops shows remarkably good taste. By the way, I went to the page you recommended a couple of days ago and would not view it a second time. I will research the Cuban cross the lady told me about and get back to you.
