LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) The victim of Mondays shooting on the 91 freeway, who pursued his assailant until California Highway Patrol officers could arrive, spoke with CBS2 on Tuesday to describe the ordeal.
Shooting victim Ken Baker was transitioning from the I-5 to the 91 freeway Monday when another driver pulled a gun and began firing at him.
Bullets shattered the drivers-side window of Bakers vehicle, causing glass to burst into his face.
Baker then gave chase.
It blew up in my face; I didnt know what happened, Baker recalled. And I pursued the guy, and I got as far as probably Harbor Boulevard, and I noticed blood trickling down to my chest, and I realized possibly Id been shot.
Bakers left arm was hit by three bullets, one of which also entered his chest through his ribcage.
Police Tuesday identified the suspected in the shooting as Jerry Valentin, 32, of Scottsdale, Ariz.
While Baker says he had never seen the man before, he did get a look at his weapon.
I looked over and saw a man pointing something at me; it was two lanes over, Baker said. And I went in pursuit of the man from speeds from 65 to 95 (mph).
Baker, a truck driver by trade, never let Valentins vehicle out of his sight during his pursuit, despite Valentin weaving through traffic to get away.
During the pursuit, Baker contacted a 911 dispatcher and relayed the details. CHP cruisers then sped to the 91 freeway, stopped Valentin and put him in handcuffs as Baker was wheeled to a hospital.
If I had let the man go, I would have never seen him again, Baker stated. I do not want anybody going out and shooting people that are innocent.
Valentin, who is reportedly an artist, has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is due in court Wednesday.
WOW! Brave and lucky man.
There was a theory that the Zodiac Murders were performance/geographic art...
Any motive, or is this cat just crazy?
Interesting choice of games.
Just a guess; however, one suspects that Mister Valentin's lawyers will not want legal and responsible gun owners on the jury.

That’s also been said about the ‘Smiley Face’ murders a few years ago. Multiple young, athletic men were found in a neighborhood river, drowned. Still unsolved.
The shooter left out killing people on the highway as one of his interests.
Good job by the victim of getting the shooter caught.
All the way to harbor boulevard?
Announcer: Ken Baker, you’ve just been shot multiple times on the highway by a crazed psychopath- what are you going to do next?”
Baker: “I’m going to disneyland!”

Wow what a strong and brave man! He probably saved other innocent people’s lives with his bravery and persistence. I know that if I were in that situation shock would most likely have gotten the better of me. I mean, all of a sudden going high speed, glass shattering in your face and taking 3 bullets with one in chest?
Hey, what's with people having Facebook pages with plenty of photos of puppies, etc., but none of themselves?
Regards,
Lacking any more facts than are shown, I suspect “road rage”. It is easy for a driver to do something entirely innocent and yet appear to the other driver as having done bad. If that driver has a gun at hand, BANG!
“If that driver has a gun at hand, BANG!”
Almost never happens. I monitor these sort of events all the time.
The shooter was said to be two lanes over from the victim. A lot of weird things here. He may have been closer when he shot.
The suspect is originally from New Jersey, then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. He was already breaking California law by having a loaded gun accessable in the vehicle. He says he has two children, and has to give up past associations. I did not see any mothers mentioned, which is rather unusual...
I suspect a criminal past. Maybe others can uncover it.
