Jonathan Alter at the Daily Beast has an idea that will infuse the president’s “economic patriotism” rhetoric with some bite: Compel companies to take “loyalty oaths” to prove their patriotism.

You may find this suggestion a little creepy, maybe even a little fascistic; but Alter says that “it’s time for red-blooded Americans to take matters into our own hands.”

And by taking the matter into “our” hands, Alter means that President Obama would unilaterally bar any company that practices “inversion” – corporate merging with foreign firms to save on U.S. tax bills – from doing business with the federal government. Companies that follow the administration requirements will earn a government seal of approval. If you act “un-American” and fail to recognize your “real interests” and those of the United States – which are, naturally, indistinguishable from the president’s agenda – you will be shunned and your business punished.

You will be powerless to stop it.

This is completely fascistic. Anyone who lobbies for Barack Obama to do this, is an anti-American fascist and completely communistic. I hope that people wake up come November, but I think it is close to being an all-is-lost situation. All Obama needs to do is: work with Congress to substantially lower corporate tax rates and substantially eliminate onerous regulations, and eliminate the EPA and companies would gladly stay to have their corporate headquarters in this country. But he won't do any of these things because he's hellbent on fundamentally transforming America and bringing our global influence down several notches so that the United States has economic and cultural parity with North Korea. Obama is an anti-American Marxist who hates America. And ANYONE WHO VOTED FOR HIM in either 2008 or 2012 also has a pathological hatred of this country./rwa

Actually, no, he didn't. John Roberts flubbed the oath at his first inauguration, it was repeated in private. Remember? There is no record of that second oath either.
