A vet who posed with a gun for a selfie died shortly after shooting himself in the head by accident.
Oscar Aguilar showed off on Facebook by posting photos of himself in front of sports cars, sitting on motorbikes and hugging attractive women.
But the Mexicans desire to impress proved his downfall when he borrowed the gun and snapped himself waving it about.
Neighbour Manfredo Paez, 57, said: I heard a gunshot and then I heard somebody screaming.
The 21-year-old died on the way to hospital in Mexico City.
He had failed to realise the gun was loaded, police said.

-- Mexicans can legally own weapons as long as they jump through a lot of hoops and follow a lot of restrictions - some every bit as stupid as our SBR restrictions, such as they can't be 'military calibers". Thus the popularity of the .38 Super there. Non-Mexican citizens residing in the country or visiting are expressly forbidden from owning or even handling weapons.
-- My guess would be that he was a former conscript in the EM. I know a guy who spent 12 months lugging around an old G91. He got really good at taking it apart and putting it back together. He spent most of the last six months of his "service" AWOL, working in his father's tire shop and studying for his CCNA.
-- According to my EM veteran colleague, they don't get a lot of weapons training. He he got to fire his rifle exactly once, for "qualification". That was the only time he was issued any ammo - 10 rounds. He once threw a dummy hand grenade and he got to see mortars and machine guns being fired but was never allowed to touch one himself. I can see someone putting in a year in the Ejercito Méxicano and not learning basic firearms safety.

I have a hard time believing this guy was a veteran. Its pretty much drummed into you to check a weapon before handling it. Of Course Jose Cuervo may have been involved and he is an unreliable friend. :-)

Wow, a 21 year old veteranarian. Standards of education must be lower in Mexico. Maybe they only treat the donkeys there.
