The stretch of water, dubbed the Lac de Gafsa, may be the result of a rupture in the rock above the local water table.
The lake appeared in the Tunisian desert like a mirage; one minute there was nothing but scorching sand, the next a large expanse of turquoise water.
Shepherds discovered the lake, thought to be up to 18 meters deep and covering one hectare, three weeks ago. Local geologists suspect seismic activity may have ruptured the rock above the water table sending the liquid to the surface.

The article has some pictures, and it also gives a link to the Lake's Facebook page, which has many more pictures.
Lets see : Global warming, Bushes fault, fracking or (heaven forbid) natural causes.
Water in the desert should be good news.
Most springs in the Desert Southwest and elsewhere are there due to the movement of a fault which as the article states blocks a flow of water in an aquifer and hence brings the water to the surface.
It is, however, someone or something will be blamed for the change in color, thought I would get a jump on it. LOL!
Is it anywhere near the Lars farm or mos Eisley spaceport?

It turned to green sludge? Oh....Biden was swimming naked there, too.
From the patterns of vegetation, it’s clear that this “lake” has been around for some time.
Yup. Has to be global warming melting the permafrost in Tunisia.
Um, you put this together with those “holes” in Siberia and the yellowstone thingy and I’m starting to get a tad nervous.
Well it isn’t too far from Tataouine...

Kewl! IIRC, Lucas heard the name while filming episode 4, liked it, changed the spelling and put it in as the name of the desert planet. Lucas did that a lot. Like the number of the trash compactor (3263827) was actually the direct line phone number to George Lucas’ office at Twentieth Century Fox!
