I love Dodsworth. The music is also a star of this movie IMHO. Haunting. Ruth Chatterton is fabulous as is Mary Astor! Huston was one in a million as far as I am concerned. My favorite of his has to be Treasure of the Sierra Madra.
I finally broke down and bought The Mortal Storm on DVD. I bought 2 copies and gave one to my in-laws. This movie is a real gem and too close to home right now.

I agree with you. I’m looking forward to watching Mortal Storm tonight. I’ve watched Dodsworth probably 4 times and each time I pick up something that I missed. While watching this AM before work, I really honed in on Dodsworth trying to get his wife to admit that her fear of age is the real issue. I never noticed before the scene where Kort comes to pick her up, and Sam is about to share with him the advent of their new baby, and she gasps when she thinks he’s going to reveal it.

Very well written and directed.

Watched Blackboard Jungle over the weekend. Another sleeper of a movie.

Yes, Madre is Huston’s best by far. Of course, he won the Academy Award with it.
