I agree with you. I’m looking forward to watching Mortal Storm tonight. I’ve watched Dodsworth probably 4 times and each time I pick up something that I missed. While watching this AM before work, I really honed in on Dodsworth trying to get his wife to admit that her fear of age is the real issue. I never noticed before the scene where Kort comes to pick her up, and Sam is about to share with him the advent of their new baby, and she gasps when she thinks he’s going to reveal it.
Very well written and directed.
Watched Blackboard Jungle over the weekend. Another sleeper of a movie.
Yes, Madre is Huston’s best by far. Of course, he won the Academy Award with it.
I recall that scene very well....one thing I love about older movies is that they are so subtle....they allow you to use your imagination which can not be limited. I love a movie that makes suggestions and allows you to use your brain. Movies today spell out every detail and literally leave so little to your imagination. It is insulting to your intelligence ! I watch a lot of British TV shows....they take the time to develop characters and plots and when I watch a show or movie and I think to myself..”I didn’t see that coming”, I love that!!
