OK, I do not normally go out of my way for something like this, but I cannot sit back and do nothing when a young girl asks me to help. So, I am stepping up to see if anyone is willing to help, because this is an emergency. I have a friend, has done all she can to find a home for her two black Labrador dogs, Who have been together since they have been puppies. My friend Megan is just 15, and I am a friend of her grandfather, but she friended me on facebook and has become a good friend. Well, Megan's family is moving from Chico to Rancho Cordova and pets are not allowed at the new residence.
One is a male of almost 5 named Liberty, and the other is a female name Freedom of the same age. Liberty is not fixed, but Freedom is, and a home is needed by tomorrow or they go to the pound.
I know this is an extremely shorty notice, but I found out about the situation less than an hour ago, when Megan sent me a personal message pleading for my help. I promised I will do all I can, but even then I could not promise success.
We live in Chico California, so if anyone lives in this vicinity and has an ability to help, I am pleading on behalf of Megan for some help.
This is her plea,My two black labs "Freedom" (Male) & "Liberty" (Female), cannot go with us. I need to know by tomorrow (at the absolute LATEST) if anyone can take them. They're about 5 years old and they're good dogs. Liberty is fixed but Freedom is not. If you can only take one that's fine too. Although they've been together pretty much since birth so it may be hard on them. Contact me as soon as possible. If YOU cant take them ask someone in your family. It would be much appreciated. My grandma said the only other option is to take them to the pound and I don't wanna do that.
Liberty (Male) approx 5 years old
Freedom (Female) approx 5 years old
Yea, I got it corrected in the comment I am doing and sending to all to correct it, and to update the situation that they now have till Friday. Her grandfather informed me that she panicked and they still have five days.
Thanks for pinging your doggie list Joe, If you could pass the message below on to your followers it would be much appreciated.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
UPDATE ON DOGS NEEDING HOME
By the way the male, Freedom, is not fixed, but the female, Liberty, is.
I had made an error and mixed it up in the original post.
Freedom (female) loves laying laps and will jump up on people if not corrected when he first tries that. Liberty (male) listens really well, but Freedom is a bit harder to handle. They both require a control harness for walking. They weren't trained for voice commands, and will take off if off leash.
Do you know anyone who could take one, or both??? I wish I could have one, but I’m too far away
So, FR is accessible via my tablet, but not by my phone.
Wow, Interesting
Almost a kiss of death for them as they will be used as bait dogs or in research labs.
Can’t help.
Luckily having until Friday will give them time to call one of the lab rescues or no-kill shelters. Personally I’d try a lab rescue first, but that’s just me.
It’s wonderful that you tried so hard to help find a home for these 2 dogs. I wish the family all the luck in the world not only rehoming these dogs, but in their new community. Since you mentioned they were struggling and moving for better opportunities, I hope this move helps them.
Thanks. I’ll keep trying, and suggest they take your advice and contact one of the shelter ahead of time so they will be prepared for the worse case scenario.
I wish I could help, I am only a hundred miles from Chico but I already have 7 dogs to care for and just can’t afford two more.
We have a no kill shelter here in Trinity county, they must have at least one in or near Chico.
Please ping everyone again to let them know the Labs belong to Soldierdad!
“even if they won’t be professionally trained they need to be a bit younger to train into a certain mode.”
Yes, I’ve been trying to find a 3 to 4 month old German Shepherd for a long time.
Anyone with information to help with the labs, please contact Freeper, soldierdad, he is the grandfather and ultimately the owner of the dogs.
bttt -— for fresh eyes.
If you’re OK with it, I’ll put a notice out to my NorCal friends on Facebook, with your contact info.
I’m good with that. Thank you.
Soldier Dad:
I recommend re-reading this thread — several people, including I, posted info about no-kill shelters and specific organizations that help labs, and checking those out in parallel with trying to find a home directly, so you won’t end up with last minute situation, in case you can’t find adoptive dog-parents soon.
Good luck!
we just lost our 14 year old black lab mix one week ago tonight. Call me anything you want to, but I just can’t do it right now.
You are a loving owner who just lost a family member and cannot fathom replacing them yet.
My wife and I lost our precious family member of 18 years two days after Christmas, and we have yet to replace her. So do not feel bad, I understand.
We are looking, but my wife is in a wheelchair and we need one we can train from a puppy to be a service dog for her.
So we cannot either. Do not ever feel bad if you are unable for any reason. God knows your heart, and i would never attempt to read into something I have no understanding of.
God bless you and yours, and i am sorry for your loss. pets, are family members, they just never leave home like children do, the eventually go over the rainbow bridge instead.

They have transportation services that can move a dog across the country if need be.
