Tiger Woods finished an hour and a half before eventual winner Rory McIlroy teed off. In that moment, the Tiger Woods Era of golf officially ended.
Over the weekend, lead Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee said, "There was a beginning of his career, middle of his career, and this is the end of his career, no question about it. Chamblee isn't the only talking head in golf who thinks the Tiger Era died this weekend. At Golf.com, a roundtable of writers all agreed. Eamon Lynch a Golf.com put it best, saying, "This point isn't even worthy of debating. It's demonstrably true that Tiger's days as a dominant force are over, and not based solely on this week's rusty performance. Dominance is measured in majors, and he hasn't won one in six years."
In golf, most people focus on the putting "yips." That's when a golfer gets nervous with short putts and either pushes or pulls their putts and can't make anything. On the putting green, where it's a touchy stroke, it makes sense to be nervous and have mental issues.
But there are driver yips, too. And Tiger has the yips with the driver. He doesn't look comfortable with the club in his hand. He's either pushing the ball way right or getting crossed up and pulling it left. Meanwhile, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Dufner, and Adam Scott, are winning majors by confidently bombing the driver and then hitting easier clubs into the green. Until Woods can fix that problem, he's unlikely to win another major. And even when he does win another major, it will just be another major. It won't be a part of the Tiger Era. That era is now over. Tiger, even if he's great again, is just another guy, according to golf's smartest analysts.

Golfers have won Majors in their late 40s. The oldest is Julius Boros at 48. So Tiger has another 10 years and 40 majors to go. Hard to believe he will not win a few more. Jack won I believe 4 majors when he at or past age 38 years. Also, Jack only one 1 major for a four year period from 79-79 until he won 2 in 1980. The main issue is seems Tiger’s body has taken a beating with multiple surgeries. From what I understands Tiger had a swing with a lot of torque and put pressure on his legs and back.
The fact that there’s an etc in there shows his “same golf courses” is actually a fair number. And majors will be landing at some of them before he’s done. He did manage to lead the tour in wins last year, thinking he’s done is premature.
Yep, no matter if he was in contention or 10 shots out, they always made time to report on him.
I live in Ne. Fla. Attended a TPC here in the 902 during woods domination. Sat a the 9th hole and watched the golfers play through, when woods came through the gallery was not only large but unruly and rude
Good point. As I recall, Arnie (Schwarzenegger) had trouble swinging a sword as Conan from being too bulked up by steroids.
902 = 1990s
Google Tiger Woods and steroids. How bad was his British Open? He lost by 5 strokes to Tom Watson!
aawww,,, nothing worse than a bi-racial has-been golfer,,,,
except maybe another entertainer...

I actually have a tip that could get Tiger out of his driver funk. Given to me by Ernie Els (who is the nicest guy in the world).
Very simple. Swing like you’re trying to hit your driver 150 yards.
Evidence?
Ill be happy if the media just reports on the actual tounament. I am not a Tigger fan, but he was a great golfer.
The media writes about him, because love him or hate him, he is still the biggest draw in golf by far.
The night before the event, he got into a spot of trouble for going "clubbing" and having a few drinks.

But there are driver yips, too. And Tiger has the yips with the driver. He doesn’t look comfortable with the club in his hand.
Compared to other pros, Tiger was never good with the driver, except when he was younger he did have a distance advantage. Now everybody has caught up to him.
Yes he did win morethan anyone else last year. However, the rough is allowed to grow much taller for the majors which hurts Tiger with his inconsistency off the tees. This is especially true for the U.S. Open. For the Open Championship, the fairways are well maintained. The rough is never mowed; it’s just left in its natural state.
“Some people say, there’s a woman to blame. But I know. . .”
Agreed. He is just not the same player and everyone else is better. I just don’t see him really even competing for another Major. He was luck to make the cut at The Open.
But he still wants Tom to select him for the Ryder Cup team!!
Tiger's swing is like it's manufactured in a lab. He's in incredible places on graph check photos, but it doesn't hold up on the golf course. It's not natural enough.
I think it officially ended when he got a golf club wrapped around his head by a woman.
So, the guy played one tourney a month ago after major surgery and months off. Then, he heads to arguably on the of the two toughest tourney courses each year (the US Open and British both traditionally offer the most challenge to golfers), and he didn’t do well. I don’t think that has any bearing on what he does over the next 5 or so years.
He may or may not win a bunch more majors, but that analysis is rather silly. It’s like critiquing Peyton Manning on his arm after first game back following the neck surgeries. His arm wasn’t nearly at it’s best and it it took him until last season to really be at peak performance.
