Germanys long and rowdy World Cup celebrations did not just take a toll of fans and players the trophy was also damaged on Sunday night at the afterparty in Brazil as the team celebrated victory over Argentina.
President of the German Football Association (DFB) Wolfgang Niersbach told Spiegel that a small piece of it was chipped off.
Dont worry about it, he added. We have specialists who can fix it.
The 63-year-old added the culprit had not been identified, despite their persistent investigation. The investigation was terminated without result, Niersbach added.
After beating Argentina 1:0 in the World Cup final, the players partied with their families, girlfriends and celebrities in Rio de Janeiro.
Fortunately, the damaged trophy is a copy. The original was kept by Fifa in the Maracana stadium.
It is not the first time football trophies have been damaged during the afterparty. In 2002, Schalkes manager Rudi Assauer dropped the German Cup from the top of a bus during celebrations.
"Zis is soccer, after all," he added.
Shoulda been boycotted IMO and the World Cup is definitely flawed like the trophy.
Who would ever have known unless they told. It was a massive blob of golden-like something that looked unfinished anyway. I thought the trophy was a joke.
Lol.
The Germans DO make nice cars.
They WILL fix the trophy and make it better. They would be able to RUN OVER IT WITH a tank and it would survive.
Do you think they got a little drunk? :o)
The Germans also take EXCELLENT care of their land. I saw that all throughout the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany). It's been some years since I was there but I don't think THAT has changed.
I do have some German heritage but I never did like beer!
Oops! Entschuldigen sie! Sie rutschte.
Oops! Excuse me!, It slipped.
Big deal. Look at the Stanley Cup.
After the Germans are done repairing it, it will be a Wi-Fi hotspot, be able to tell time in multiple timezones, and travel on the autobahn at 220+ km/hr.
...and serve a pork sausage sandwich with it....
Haha. Without doubt you are korrect.
They DO drive like madmen/women. We were CRAWLING in the slow lane at 70 m.p.h. and being passed by ROCKET driving.
In the midst of all that is important happening in the world, like I give a rat’s a** about the fifa trophy. Sheesh!
Yep, and that’s not to mention the America’s Cup, damaged by an indigenous person wildly indignant about nearly everything.
Abraham Lincoln said that we can modify our behavior to some extent, but we cannot change our human nature.
In other words, the crud that goes on in the world will continue on. And, since we are now 6 billion+, the crud has grown exponentially. It will continue to grow with the population.
Imagine if China did NOT have a one-baby policy. China's population: 1.351 billion (2012).
Were they partying at Vinnie Paul’s house?
Seriously, I’m sure The Stanley Cup has gone through a hell of a lot more than the World Cup Trophy has.
They rounded up and killed thousands of homeless in Rio before the 1994 Earth Conference and world cup. Saw the before and after myself. Everyone in Rio knew about it. Spoke in hushed whispers. It is probably the only reason I didn’t live abroad in South America. We may reach parity in a few years, especially with this immigration disaster and obamacare, so the thought is still there.
Is the World Cup Trophy like the Stanley Cup where it gets passed from winner to winner?
The trophy immediately fell on the ground and screamed for five minutes, after which it jumped up and returned to play.
The Argentine Team: Each player on the Argie team has donated his World Cup purse(134,000 Euros) to a foundation that is building a Cancer Clinic in BA.
APPLAUSE
Warning card for rough (tho funny and dead-on accurate) humor!!
