A 7-foot-long shark attacked a swimmer Saturday at Manhattan Beach, causing serious injury and prompting authorities to use helicopters and boats to evacuate throngs of people taking to the water on a busy 4th of July holiday weekend.
The incident happened about 9:30 Saturday morning, said photographer Eric Hartman, who saw the victim carried from a lifeguard vehicle on a backboard into an ambulance near the first lifeguard station south of the Manhattan Pier.

At the link the details emerge that also fishing from this beach was a guy who catches sharks. So you had a guy fishing for sharks in the water at the swimming beach. He hooked on. It got honked off and chomped some poor swimmer.

They’ll be able to ID the shark from the graffiti spraypainted on it.

California’s idiot legislature passed a shark protection act
Result: more sharks, meaner sharks

Sharky.... You were supposed to bite a few of the illegals, not a poor American swimmer...
My brother just went by the beach and said there are a lot of people, but no one in the water.

I’d be interested to know the species of the shark. Blue sharks grow to about that size, and they’ve been known to attack humans, but such attacks are rare.

Guy was probably listening to rap.
That’d do it.

When I go to the zoo, I make sure there is a fence between me and the animals. When I go to the ocean, I make sure there is a boat between me and the animals.

prompting authorities to use helicopters and boats to evacuate throngs of people taking to the water Well don't that just take the cake. We're evacuating people with choppers because of a shark. Every beach I've ever visited, yelling "SHARK!" would suffice to send everyone screaming out of the water.
Are these New Yorkers extraordinarily thickheaded, or do they just not understand English?
