Now it gets interesting, this is a lot higher quality than the first round - which had a lot pretenders - so I hope those new to soccer will tune in and give it a chance.
I am headed off in about an 45 minutes to the local pub to watch the game—France vs Germany. I am rooting for the Germans to make the semifinals for the third straight time. Deutschland über alles—at least for the rest of the tournament.
Happy $th thanks for cooling my jets have a great week end
Thanks for the ping! I had been using GOOGLE for the daily match updates but they have apparently dropped it from their home page.
Alemania!
Colombia!
Argentina!
Costa Rica!
(It just dawned on me that *potentially* Colombia and Costa Rica *could* meet in the Final, the way the brackets are designed. Note I said “could” and “potentially”).
That’s probably because it’s the 4th of July — maybe they’ll continue it tomorrow and for the Semis and the Final.
I would like to see the Netherlands win their first World cup.
I have a question for everybody.
I am an American, USA.
I came to France on May 1, 2 months ago to live and check the place out. My kids are all up and out and I am a computer consultant, so I can work anywhere, so why not, right? I live between the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l’Est train stations, in the paki/indy section of Paris. I don’t speak a lick of French.
I went to the store this morning and noticed somebody had hung dozens of French flags over the streets. The girl at the grocery store claims that the flags are because of the big French vs German World Cup game tonight. My original thought the flags had been put up in preparation for Bastille Day, July 14th. I don’t know and I am curious about this.
Anyway, my real question is this:
What time is the game going to be played in Brazil and is it being aired live here in France?
The girl at the grocery store said it would be on at 6 PM tonight (two hours from now). That would make it around 2 PM in Rio. I am assuming it is being broadcast here live.
Do they schedule these games times to coincide with the largest prime time viewership of the countries competing? When would they schedule a game to be played and aired live between 2 countries that have very different time zones?
Or will they sometimes be aired as a “tape delay” in some countries?
Just curious.
6pm in Paris time the first match, 10pm the second match.
1pm Brazil time for the first match, 5pm for the second.
Go Germany and Belgium!!!!
I dunno, that Belgium v USA game was pretty high quality ...
If we follow the sport, can we still complain about the ugly trophy :?
Agreed. It must be so frustrating to have gotten all the way to the Final on 3 different ocassions, only to lose.
(Even though I’m pissed off at Robben for being such a drama queen bitch against Mexico.)
Hummels pummels!!
He was the difference maker today. Glad he is back.
The Brazil corner-kick clears the schmozzle (?) in the box & lands at the feet of an unmarked Silva who puts away the opening goal vs. Colombia.
Tears welled my eyes when David Luiz and Dani Alves of Brazil hugged and comforted Colombia’s James Rodriguez — SUCH SPORTSMANSHIP!
