Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Morning Face ... You are up early. Big day planned at the track?
Busdaddy is in Colorado Springs, enjoying a few days off for his birthday to visit his son and his family. July is the month that racing is suspended, since it’s brutally hot on the track and in the pits.
He says he could live in Colorado, it is so beautiful. He would probably regret when the first snows came...
And I’m always up early. I can’t recall when the last time was that I slept past 0600.
I slept past 0600
Was up at 200 edt coughing my head off. If you happen to see my head rolling around over your way ... please mail it back to me. Truly miss my head.
I was in bed until after 6:00. DP and Bill have gone to run 16 miles. I was planning to take the byos and Kathleen to the water park when it opens at 10:00, but if it’s still cloudy and drizzly, they’d be too cold.
Good day for running, with the rain falling. Instant sweat and can take a bath if soap is handy.
Racing starts up again in mid-August, but I don’t know if I will be the pit crew or not. It just depends. He may turn the driving over to a friend so he can watch how the car performs, since I don’t know what to look for.
Still, I love going to the track, so that probably won’t change!
The driving sounds like a job for you. Turn the tables and have him in the pits.
I’m going to have a slow day and veg out in front of the TV again. I made the mistake of trying one of the Nutrisystem cookies, and it didn’t agree with me. I think I understand how one loses so much weight on that diet...
So I will drink lots of tea and just recline. I’ve done all I can on the hat until I get the brim wire, and I’ve almost completed a paisley picture. Paisley is a difficult pattern to color.
Busdaddy is being taken up to Pike’s Peak today. He is going to love the view, but I bet he will be physically uncomfortable because of the thin air. That’s OK. He’s all for the adventure!
He seems to be really having fun, this time. The last time he went, his mother was with him, but she has COPD, so they were all trying to make things easier for her. Not much sight-seeing except for Garden of the Gods.
Once upon a time, he was trying to figure out how to take 100 pounds off the front end. At the time, I weighed 157 pounds, so I told him I knew how: Let me drive it. HAH!
I DID get to drive it when it was still street legal, but that was a LOT of years ago. Sweet!
It’s nice for running, but the Weather Channel says the high will be in the 78s, with continued rain on and off. We’ll have to come up with something other than the water park.
Time for you to drive on the track ... I can see it now ... Danica Patrick, of NASCAR, will have to give up driving and become a member of your pit crew.
Reminds me of the trip I took there as a boy; Pike’s Peak, the Garden of the Gods.
Pike’s Peak didn’t bother me, as a boy, but it bothered my mom a lot. It was the middle of August, and they had snow banked around the building.
I also learned, rather graphically, that Icarus had it entirely wrong. Closer to the sun, when it’s only altitude, doesn’t make it warmer.
I’m glad he’s enjoying the trip.
Shucks the guys and girls are going to be disappointed. No water park means no fun in the Sun. How about they give you (the guys and girls) give you the day off. The guys and girls will still be disappointed but Mom will be happy.
I had last Saturday off. Tom is supposed to be here sometime this morning, so we’ll wait to form a new plan until his laundry is going.
Danika drives the Circle Track...we are at the Drag Strip. At Las Vegas Motor Speedway, we are behind the NASCAR track. The complex has about a dozen different tracks to play on, including one for “Drifters.”
It’s an enormous place. Larger that Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Know it is July but I remember The Night Santa Went Crazy ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-Mce9VpmY
I haven’t been to Pike’s Peak, but I have been to Garden of the Gods several times. I never get tired of it.
I told Busdaddy he would need a jacket... The Springs is at about 7,000’ and is a lot cooler than here. So I packed a jacket for him!
So far his missives have been rather short, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for the details.
You could exit the drag strip and drive over to the circle track and make Danika jealous.
Hey, don’t get me started or my Better Half will want a day off too.
