Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

It was funny.
The Camera was all set on the tripod ,ready to take to picture.
*Sneezed.*
Out of the scrub in front of us shot a Rabbit ,right across the snow scape before us.
It added something to the shot....Bunny prints.

“Six foot tall and right behind the photographer”... up there this is possible. :)

“Why is he thumpin his foot like that?”
“He’s very angry.”
“Well, yes. But does he have to do that on my head?”

Well, uh, you see, er, I really can't say..

"I swear, I'm a harmless rabbit!" he was exceedingly polite as well as seeming to be very sincere.
That he carried an oversized knife and a rifle were mere trivialities.
"Here, and what about that mugger over there?" yes, the one you punched into the ceiling.
"I don't like loud noises." shivered the rabbit.

If you where there you will remember. :)

Shale scree, usually.
Good for digging.
But the image looks more like that’s a sandy patch under that snow.
Also a fave of rabbits to dig in.

Good guessing.
The field under the Snow is a Wheat field, planted and ready to go in spring.
The Rock in that area is a mixture of flint and chalk.
The Bunnies dig under the hedges where the roots have fragmented the ground. They can and do dig the chalk, the hedge provide cover as well as a head start.

Every few feet down there is a layer of flint.
The 30 foot layer is the one man came to love.

This whole areas landscape formation in the result of the effects of a post ice age lake on the ancient seabed it decided to form upon.
Low laying plains and rolling hills.
