Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

I left the party too soon, yesterday, it seems. Best wishes to Jake.
In other news, I’m at Busdaddy’s (again) because of the supposed threat of another break-in. I want to go home, but I’m out of gas.
And in still other news, Busdaddy has officially lost over 50 pounds!
When I officially wake up, I may feel half-way decent. I was up twice with chest pains (not surprising) so I’m still hung-over from that.
Naptime over? Naptime always ends too soon ... Morning T-c. Morning Everyone.
I dropped Jake off at the vet’s when they opened, and they’ll check him out when they have time. At least he can’t sneak off into a closet and tear his bandage off, if he’s secured at the vet.
We went to the gym, and now I’m going to take a shower. Make Busdaddy buy you gas to celebrate his excellent weight loss!
Poor Jake.
He has to buy me gas or I can’t get home. Not sure if he would like that. But I’m stuck here until at least tomorrow evening, as I have to sign for the security system. He will set it up Tuesday evening and arm it Wednesday morning when he leaves for work.
And now, I have a migraine headache. I have no clue why. It started about an hour ago. I don’t need this.
It’s probably finances. That’s usually what triggers them. Or catastrophic events...like a car accident.
Unnngh. Large dose of Ibuprofen and lie down?
Waiting to hear what will be done with Jake, and also to learn when we’ll get the purple car back from the mechanic. Bill will need it to drive to school Tuesday afternoon.
Elen’s going out to lunch with Jennifer Our Dog Groomer.
I had some Ibuprofen, another breathing treatment and a hit of nitro. Now, I will lie down on the sofa.
Too much stress, lately
Lie down. Others can FReep for you!
The vet phoned. She said Jake is being very manly, “Oh, it’s just a flesh wound, let me back out!” However, he’s going to need to be sedated for treatment and to have a drain put in (not going to be fun post-op care, bleh). They gave him some antibiotics and painkillers and will keep him bandaged up until they have time for the real treatment tomorrow.
And now, off to get the Purple Car.
How in the world did Jake do that?
And what did he try and do?
It’s a huge, gaping hole in his skin, like 2” diameter. I think I saw his esophagus, but I was trying not to look too closely. It suggests that something big had his neck in its jaws, but he’s not saying anything but “Mao,” so ...
So he’s pretty much not telling.
Great.
I’m up again. I feel a little better, and I managed to sleep almost 90 minutes. Go figure. Of course, last night was pretty wicked, so I shouldn’t be surprised at the length of the nap.
I’m still a little shaky, so I’ll stay put for a while.
That’s really interesting about Jake. Whataguy! LOL! He will hate that collar!!
Jake being brave. Jake soon to be angry when his demands are not adhered to by vet? Poor Jake. The vet will knock Jake out.
Please, stop stressing, please. I'll do the stressing for you. My promise. If am not stressing enough to suit you; you have my permission to yell at me.
I don’t know what Jake will look like when he’s done his surgery. The wound is not really in the right spot for a Cone of Shame; those are more for head/ear injuries. Maybe just a lot more bandages.
Shannon is looking around for Jake. Once she’s certain he isn’t here, she’ll make herself comfortable somewhere he usually sits.
Shannon is going to be in for the shock of a lifetime once Jake reappears. Probably will knock out a least one life of nine lives.
She’ll be annoyed when he comes back, especially since he’ll look and smell funny.
But on the good news side, the reason they can’t operate on Jake until tomorrow is that young Doctor Kaylor, our regular vet, is out of town: the baby girl he and his wife are going to adopt was born on Saturday. The rest of the staff is trying to keep up with regular appointments and emergencies.
Might want to search Jake and make certain he isn’t carrying knock out drops.
