Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.
Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

They also left a bottle of water, unopened, on the floor. The CSI tech said she got some excellent finger AND palm prints, and she was very optimistic about catching them.
So far, Busdaddy is looking at about $3000 in replacement costs, though he isn’t really sure about that. He will have to look a little closer when the shock wears off.
There are still tiny shards of glass on the bedroom rug, but I washed the bedding after CSI was done, so at least Busdaddy could sleep in the bed. Maintenance is supposed to come to replace the windows (Thermapane) and fix the patio door today, but we don’t know when.
Busdaddy has gone for his walk, but he has a lot of stuff to do to get this place back to “normal.” Having experienced three break-ins in three different areas of town, I know EXACTLY how he feels.
AND HOW!!!
I’ve had a dozen people request to be added to the ping list in the past few days.
Free advice everyone?
Stock up with enough supplies to shelter in place for at least 42 days.
Dang! And he has such a nice house!
Yeah. It’s not just the stuff that was taken. They also took your peace of mind.
It’s even nicer since he bought a sofa last month, but the condition the house was in yesterday when I walked in was just horrendous.
He’s still in shock, but I’m hoping he comes out of it soon. He says he feels “violated.” He was.
We couldn’t touch a thing until Metro and CSI were done, so that meant sitting amid the chaos and LOOKING at it for almost five hours. I’m sure that has contributed to his depression.
Give him a hug for me.
I think he is more shattered by the violation than by the loss. And then, there was a shooting at a Jack-In-The-Box up where he used to live, and his first thought was, “I wonder if they used my guns to do that?”
What a horrible feeling.
I will do that. He needs lots of hugs today.
Eeeep. Two hugs.
Done. He said “Thanks!”
The poor guy. I hope the walk makes him feel better.
A walk and a shower have helped. He is now on his way to a “safety meeting” for his job. I’m house-sitting for a while.
And I believe he is coming out of the shock because he is beginning to formulate plans of action for the day and week ahead.
That’s good.
I have to go to Walmart again.
Stronger beer...yeah okay ,but it is refrigerated.
Yuck, cold beer! *snigger and run*
I couldn’t say ... I don’t like beer.
ADT will be coming tonight and giving an estimate, and Busdaddy has gone to the bank and Kmart. The idiots took all his prescription drugs and there isn’t one that would be considered something to get high on. Kmart will replace them all free.
We’ve managed to get the serial numbers off most of the stuff that was taken, and he will finish inventorying the garage when he gets back.
My day is shot, and I suspect tomorrow will be, too, so Sunday will see me getting the money orders and groceries that I normally get on payday.
TC, did you ever have a chance to ask DP about the VHS-to-DVD recorder? Can I record the movies without hooking it up to the TV?
I didn’t bring anything to do, and it’s difficult for me to just sit and be cute.
Whoops, no, I didn’t think of it. I’ll see him this evening, though.
Thanks!
I had a cup of coffee this morning and made the mistake of lying on the sofa. For the almost three hours Busdaddy was at the safety meeting, I was mostly dozing. Caffeine does that to me. I can drink coffee at night and fall asleep. Silly.
Lablady and family are on their way to Charlotte, to connect with the international flight that will take them to Rome. They will then tour Venice, and leave from Paris to fly back to Charlotte, then home, two weeks from now. And I’d be happy just to go to Germany for a week! LOL!
I hope they have a nice trip. It’s raining in Charlotte.
