An actor best known from the 1960s sitcom "McHale's Navy," has died. Bob Hastings was 89. Allison Knowles says her grandfather died Monday in his Burbank, California, home after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Hastings won fans on "McHale's Navy" as Lt. Carpenter, a bumbling yes-man. Other memorable roles were on "All in the Family" and "General Hospital."

His role as Binghamton’s yes man was really a pretty tough one to play.
He was a good actor.
He was the M.C on The Poseidon Adbenture ... doing the countdown
He was Kelsey in All In The Family
Major Beasley on Batman
never watched McHale’s Navy
how prophetic... and its not funny anymore.
I think that leaves Tim Conway and Gavin MacLeod as the only surviving cast members from McHale’s Navy.
GREAT show!
His brother Don Hastings was an actor also and played Dr. Bob Hughes for over 50 years on “As the World Turns”.
He will be greatly missed...Greatest actor that ever lived.
Yoshio Yoda is still alive.
I didn't know he was also the voice of Beany in Beany & Cecil.
Rest in Peace.
Damn, and another from the Golden Age of TV is gone...
Which one is he? The holder or the one being held?
Which one is he?
Bob Hstings is holding Joe Flynn, who played Captain Binghamton. Joe Flyn died at the age of 49, a drowning victim. He had a cast on his leg, but decided to go for a swim in his his pool anyway. The weight of the cast pulled him down, and he drowned. (Back then, they used the heavy plaster casts, not the lightweight fiberglass casts they developed later.)
Wow! Fuji is still around!
Darwin Award winner, assuming he never reproduced.
Thanks!
Is he hiding in the jungles of the PI?
McHale’s Navy and F Troop were my two favorite shows once upon a time. These shows violated so many of today’s PC rules.
