Tim Howard may very well be the most popular man in America at this moment. So much so, an official White House petition was started Tuesday night to rename the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after Howard -- seriously.

It was the innocent days of 1970. My earliest memories. Getting a nickel or dime (whatever the cost) and running to the store to buy a pack of baseball cards. It almost didn’t matter if I got Johnny Bench, Frank Howard or the backup catcher on Montreal. I was happy sitting someplace just outside the store and going through those cards, looking at the images, reading the stats and bio info and learning — I even taught myself basic math by learning batting averages. Those are unblemished memories.
The only Tim Howard I have ever heard of is Sheriff of Erie County (surrounding Buffalo NY)
I remember it, because he was vocal in saying he would not enforce Andrew Cuomo’s ridiculous SAFE ACT, rushed through the NY Legislature after the Newton CT shootings
Mao did it, Stalin did it.
And after the fanatics were killed off all those names got changed back. And I will live long enough to see it happen here.
a losing goalie replacing The Gipper? nawgonnahappin
You remember the gum? It was so hard it shattered when you chewed it and it left a stripe on the card that was closest to the gum.
Football cards were great too. I had so many Forest Gregg cards that I thought the machine broke at the factory. I hated getting the summary cards - the ones that had stats on the teams or players.
Coca cola, or Orange Fanta in a glass bottle in one of those machines that kept those bottles so cold that on a 100 degree day in Northern California, there would be frost on the bottle.
Waiting for a condom company to call theirs “Flukes”
Do I ever! That gum was so bad it was good.
The author apparently knows who Tim Howard is, so Mr Howard gets an enthusiastic one-person vote for most popular person in the US right now.
The rest of us unwashed folks are just going to have to catch up with who’s who. I guess.
There’s a Tim Howard in my hometown who was recently charged with “drunk in public”.I wonder if that’s the one.
Yep. Those were the days Cracker Jacks put decent prizes inside.
It was good. You just had to get it chewy.
Simpler days for sure.
"Remember Howard's warlike thrust" (from the Maryland state song)
Nobody will know that he’s the goalie of a losing soccer team in a week.
The Fleer gum was quite the treat, too.
Seriously
Who is Tim Howard first of all
Second why
My liberal sister and brother-in-law, who live in DC, always call it “National”.
LOL
Nah. Lets rename JFK instead.
One thing I find really strange is that JFK aircraft carrier was just decommissioned a little time ago and now after the Bush, JFK is getting ANOTHER carrier already. We still have not named a carrier after Hayes, Grant, Garfield, Chester Arthur, Benjamin Harrison, William McKiney, William Taft, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. They should have a carrier before JFK for a second time. Heck Nixon and George W. are the only Republicans not to have a carrier yet....both are deserving.
Destroyer naming convention can be used for political payback or as a means to honor individuals.
I actually agree with that.
