... Belgium coach Marc Wilmots is sweating injuries to two of his four starting defenders captain Vince Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen and holds out hope that a weekend of rest will allow the two to recover in time to face the U.S. at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.

Colombia is an very interesting story this year.
They scored a lot of goals in the first round (yeah OK not that great a division, but still) and haven’t let too many in. They could be a surprise spoiler.
The Uruguay striker wrote in Spanish that "in no way [did it happen] how you have described, as a bite or intent to bite."“And then he fell on my fist, right before he went on to headbutt my foot!”
Chile’s loss is one of those bitter pills that is in every World Cup.
Honestly, losing like Uruguay did, 2-0 where they were clearly outclassed might be a better way to go out.
That was a good game vs. the cynical play you sometimes find in games.
There was a special on ESPN over the past 2 weeks,
The two Escobars: http://espn.go.com/30for30/film?page=the-two-escobars
I’ll have to see where I can watch this.
Colombia has been the butt of some jokes and so on but every time I have seen them, they have been very much the gentleman’s team.
Absolutely on Colombia. They played very well yesterday against a Uruguayan team that....appeared to have lost their appetite. That Rodriguez goal was a cracker.
I was just hoping for a win today for Costa Rica. People looked at them as a pushover team.
Yeah, getting to a CRC-USA semifinal would be a real kick in the head, wouldn’t it.
Gotcha. Today I’m picking the Dutch and Costa Rica.
Tomorrow, France and Germany. Then...Switzerland and the US!
I’m not good with my picks, they are often guesses but the Dutch will win, they will win it in 90 minutes. The only thing Mexico has going for them really is a lot of support in the stadium. In that one game I watched, they just had tons of travelling fans in the stadium.
Switzerland, that’s a real pick out of left-field for me, well,
The Swiss were routed by France, so they took out some of their less effective defenders. They faced Argentina in 2012 and lost, Messi scoring a hat-trick. Switzerland has a good coach. So if the Swiss can cover up the holes in their defense, they should be able to keep up with Argentina. Switzerland certainly have scored a number of goals.
So, I think it would be a fine stage for an upset. It’s probably a bit perturbing that it’s largely the Messi fanboys building up Argentina. Real country support I don’t mind at all.
Greeks need to play like the 300 to win this or any more games in this tournament. They are good guys and finished ahead of Ivory Coast and Japan. Good teams.
Belgians, this is NO TIME to waffle!
