Yep, that’s the burden of being the among the best. I’d like to see them get to at least the semi final against Germany.

World Cup power rankings: Argentina and Brazil remain out front while Colombia close the gap
Note: the power rankings are done in order of anticipated likelihood to win the competition and qualify for the next round, taking into account both long-term results and recent performances, as well as the perceived difficulty of their route. The root of them is that too much should never be read into any single result.

Colombia Mayors Regulate World Cup Merrymaking
Authorities in major Colombia cities are again imposing bans on alcohol and curfews for minors Saturday to discourage mayhem on a big World Cup game day. Some are even banning motorcycles.

The chief of citizen security for Colombia's national police, Gen. Jorge Nieto, told The Associated Press that thousands of extra officers would be on the streets of Bogota and other major cities when Colombia meets Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro for its first knockout round contest.

No Suarez, No Falcao for Uruguay-Colombia Match
Colombia was already without Radamel Falcao. Now Uruguay is without Luis Suarez.

Instead of a matchup between two of the world's top strikers, the Round-of-16 game between Colombia and Uruguay at the World Cup will be a test of which team copes best without its talisman.

Colombia goalkeeper oldest World Cup player ever
He is just over 43 years old and was a member of Colombia's World Cup squads in 1994 and 1998.

Escobar is best known for having been murdered in the aftermath of the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the common belief is that his death was due to his own goal that eventually led Colombia out of it, and which supposedly had caused gambling losses to several powerful drug lords of the time.

Where I am every one is still going to Yankee Stadium and “Shea.” I don’t see this lousy game “sweeping the nation.”

That's okay, as long as New Jersey continues to give the USA a number of it's top soccer players, we'll be happy.

Soccer Players from New Jersey

Players include, past and present:

Jozy Altidore

John Harkes

Tony Meola

I'll leave it there, but NJ has been very important for USA Soccer, our women's team as well with Heather O'Reilly and perhaps others.

How could you possibly mention players from New Jersey and leave off Tim Howard?

"No Suarez, No Falcao for Uruguay-Colombia Match"

Costa Rica is actually without some of their top players, you sure would not have know that.

Kansas gave us Matt Besler, http://us.soccerway.com/players/matt-besler/73521/ , Michigan gave us Alexi Lalas, Chris Wondolowski and perhaps a number of others, Landon Donovan too I think are from California.

But New Jersey is actually very important presently and in the past for US Soccer, announcers have made a big deal out of this. I can’t remember what year, the nucleus of some of our teams has actually hinged on New Jersey.

More from New Jersey:

Claudio Reyna
Tim Howard

Michael Bradley

It really seems that team chemistry is a huge component of success at the World Cup.

I believe a lady mentioning New York City was saying she did not see the game sweeping the nation. You can tell her this as well.

Alejandro Bedoya http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alejandro_Bedoya

Tab Ramos.

So it must have been the 1994 team that had a big connection to that state.

You do know that Shea was bulldozed into the ground 6 years ago. And since Shea was taken down, the attendance for the team has fallen by 50% between 2008 and 2013. The other teams attendance has dropped 25% in the same period. And the Yankees disagree with your assessment so much that they partnered up with Manchester City to own their own soccer team to start play in 2015, in Yankee Stadium. Let me see, who should I believe, you or the Steinbrenners.

Football players are almost as hardcore as hockey players. I can’t wait to watch that match against Belgium. I’ll never know how they played a draw against Ronaldo and Portugal.

Yep - I'm not a fan, but do watch in special instances (kind of like watching ice dancing/gymnastics, etc. in the Olympics). These guys are tough and staminous. Would be great to see America win
