My Dog got into a fight with a Porcupine, it did not end well for either of them. While looking for info on porcupines I found this and got a chuckle out of it. Enjoy!

Due to the damage porcupines do to my wood lands, buildings and the value of timber they ruin.
Then the fact that it cost a lot of money to remove quills from my dogs it they are bad enough.
I shoot every porcupine I find on my property.

What's truly amazing is t hat they somehow manage to nurse their young without impaling their porcupettes..( that's what a baby porcupine is called..the babies quills are soft ( obviously..otherwise birthing would really, REALLY hurt...they harden in a few days..but you'd also think that as they crawled all over the mother's belly to nurse, they'd stick her as well.
Ain't nature amazing??

Porcupines are generally good natured after being around humans for a while, especially if they get tidbitted in the process. They will shamelessly beg for goodies.

My kids and I went to a wild life rescue place in Alaska a few years ago. We saw a baby porcupine. This caused me to commit a “do as I say, not as I do” error in parenting that haunts me to this day (because the kids remind me). There was a big sign: “Do not touch the porcupine”, because people can transmit their germs to him and he might get sick, basically. Well, I couldn’t help it. I petted the adorable porcupine, but then told the kids they couldn’t. They had to obey the sign. Sigh....

My mother had a pet porcupine she called Mickey. Look closely at this pic. Mickey is in there with her dog Trixie. She was very playful and a wonderful pet. She eventually went back to the wild.
