You don't have kids or grandkids? If someone threatened one of my grandkids, I could beat them into submission with a wooden spoon.

And yes... I raised my hand and swore the oath, and enlisted twice to pick up arms for my country. Killing people and breaking things is part of that.

That’s one of the things Claire Wolfe put on her list of “101 Things To Do Until The Revolution”.

“Decide what you’re willing to kill for. Not what you’re willing to die for, but what you’re willing to kill for.”

That is a very hard question that every person has to ask of them self, even the folks who have served in uniform have to ask this question [not every person who served, can pull a trigger on a another person]. But when you & your family are faced with imminent danger you’ll do what ever it takes to keep yourself & them safe.

Suppose it’s them or you. Who do you pick? I say, if someone has to go, it might as well be “them.”

You will know when the time comes, or you will die. It's basic survival. If you hesitate, you will likely not survive. Understand this and train for the eventuality and your odds of surviving go up exponentially. Doubt will get you killed.

You might be surprised what you can do if you feel threatened. Fight or flight and there very well may be nowhere to run.

"Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction." If someone is coming for your family's food, the safest direction to point your firearms is at people who are going to starve your family (if they don't kill your family immediately!).

Years ago when I was studying Martial Arts my instructor had a rule that unless you had made "The Decision" you could not receive a Black Belt. You have earned one, but he would not award it.

He felt that when the time came that you had to use these skills you had better be willing to go the distance.

The same thing holds true for using any weapon. If you can't use it and are not willing to take a life with it. Don't carry/ display it.

Predatory bad people have no compunction against hurting you in the worst possible way. They can sense fear and indecision and they will take the first opportunity to disarm you and use that weapon against you.

The self-defense mindset is NEVER to “kill people.” It’s to stop them from taking aggressive action against you and yours.

Unfortunately, using firearms (the most efficient means of inflicting sufficient injury to stop aggressive actions) sometimes results in the death of the aggressor.

Thinking in these terms allows one to contemplate the moral/philosophical implications of their actions from the safety of their leisure, while leaving them fully prepared to take the action required to preserve their lives should the need arise.

Recall also the words of Adm. James Bond Stockdale, reflecting on his seven+ years checked-in at the Hanoi Hilton:
This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

I don’t know if I could or would for sure. What I do know is that I have a habit of acting instictively and agressively when threatened, and think later.

For example, we had someone enter our house at night. I had inadvertently fallen asleep on the couch in the living room. Hubby fell asleep unintentionally in front of the TV in the basement family room. Kids were in bed asleep.

Being a lite sleeper, the patio door woke me up. I thought at first it was Hubby. When he didn’t answer me, it made me kinda mad, so I repeated my question in a harsher tone.

He froze and stopped right there by the door. I realized that it was not hubby. That made me so mad, I screamed at him like a banshee, jumped up and started toward him demanding to know who the h*ll are you, and what the h*ll do think YOU are doing in MY house? He turned around and ran off.

Only then was I scared, but he was gone.

Similarly, a man once entered the womans rest room and went into the stall next to me. I didn’t know whether it was a man or woman, but I noticed the boots were awfully dirty.

Next thing I know, a face appeared under the stall, and I thought, if that’s a woman, it’s the ugliest and most greasy haired woman I ever saw. So I am screaming like a banshee and using the H*ll word and telling the jerk to quit looking and at the same time, I am kicking him with my foot enclosed in my nice clean cowboy boot.

After it was over, I was scared, and thought jee whiz, if he had a gun he’d probably have killed me.
