SAO PAULO, Brazil — The U.S. national soccer team will arrive at Arena Pernambuco in Recife for Thursday’s pivotal World Cup match against Germany after playing in Amazonian air as thick as hummus four days earlier. Germany will take the field for the Group G showdown with the benefit of 27 extra hours of recuperation and preparation after competing in another northeast coastal city, Fortaleza.

Italy-Uruguay matchpack: Winner takes all
Uruguay, semi-finalists four years ago, will arrive in Natal on an almighty high after Suarez's double strike beat England and eased the pain of their opening 3-1 loss to Costa Rica - a match their totemic striker missed as he recovered his fitness.

Italy also lost to Costa Rica by 1-0 but their opening victory over England means the four-times World Cup winners need a point from the fixture, while twice champions Uruguay must win because of their inferior goal difference.

The only objective is to win, to progress and to perform in this wonderful jersey which is the most beautiful thing a player can experience."

Japan vs. Colombia
Alberto Zaccheroni's side lost their opening match 2-1 to Ivory Coast, before picking up a goalless draw with basement side Greece on June 19.

As a result, Japan sit third in the group on one point, two points behind second-place Ivory Coast, who face Greece on the same evening.

As it stands, a Japan victory against Colombia would be enough to see them advance into the next round if Ivory Coast narrowly lose against Greece.

Colombia, however, have already safely booked their spot in the knockout stage of the competition following two wins. The South American team opened their group campaign with a 3-0 win over Greece, before beating Ivory Coast 2-1 last time out.

Here’s the thing about England - they need to make sure not to over-react to their showing here. They played two good, tough games against good teams, and were competitive in both of them. It’s not an embarrassment like what Spain did in their first two.

LA is under alert, huge celebrations in Los Angeles over the TriColor.

World Cup 2014: 4 arrests during celebrations in Los Angeles area after Mexico beats Croatia

This shows largely why the USA has stopped playing to some extent home games vs. Mexico in LA. Columbus Ohio seems to largely be the homebase for the USA's games.

In one way, it doesn't strike me right they celebrate so much but I'm sure you have big celebrations when Italy wins in the World Cup as well.

The thing with the World Cup is after Sunday, either Netherlands or Mexico won't still be in the World Cup. I know the Dutch will be favored. So fans have to celebrate while their team is there. Since the game is in Latin America, I have to give that edge to Mexico. They did only go out to penalties in the 1986 World Cup against West Germany.

Although Japan and Greece appear to be a rung below Ivory Coast, I'd fancy Costa Rica's chances against any of these teams. It will be a famous game when the USA and Costa Rica squared off in the snow in that competitive game, despite the sunny climates CR is in, they did not play that game too badly.

They do have a chance vs. Brazil. Netherlands certainly defeated Chile. Difficult to determine the significance of that match.

We can beat Brazil, says Chile's Vidal Vidal who plays for Juventus was rested and did not play vs. Netherlands

Klinsmann: FIFA showing favoritism to Germany.

"We have one day less to recover. They played yesterday, we played today. We played in the Amazon, they played in the locations where they don't have to travel as much. Everything was done for the big favorites to move on. We have to do it the tough way but we're going to do it the tough way."

Been saying it for years, what Mexico needed was a good coach, they have the talent. Now we see the results.

I hope Barkley shines today. England has a good core of young players.

Despite the disappointment of 2014, their future is as bright as it has been in quite some time.
