The strongest and fastest people on Wall Street faced off this weekend to determine who is the best athlete.
Wall Streeters ranging in ages 22 to 62 participated in the annual RBC Decathlon at DaSilva Memorial Stadium at St. Johns University in Queens on Sunday.
In a span of four hours, the athletes completed a 400 meter run, football throw, pull ups, 40 yard dash, dips, 500 meter row, vertical jump, 20 yard shuttle, bench press and an 800 meter run.
The annual event raised $1.4 million for pediatric cancer research and treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Mark Rubin, who works in fixed income sales at Barclays, captured the "Wall Street's Best Athlete" title for the third consecutive year. Rubin was a former Penn State safety who had a brief stint in the NFL for the St. Louis Rams.

Sandusky would be proud.
Too old.
I wonder if your js obsession is some sort of projection on your part. I hope not.
Is this part of the Freerepublic gay thread series?
No event that excludes fencing—the first martial art and the king of sports—is a true test.
Wrestling was the first martial art in recorded history and It undoubtedly preceded the existence of swords

Plus it looks like they raised $1.4 million for charity. What did you do last weekend?
“Wrestling was the first martial art in recorded history”
Swords precede recorded history. The use of swords achieved the level of art before wresting—if, indeed, wrestling can be termed an art even today.
“It undoubtedly preceded the existence of swords”
How far back are you willing to go? Are you willing to say that barehanded australopithecine grappling, scratching, and biting was art before the first pre-human picked up a bone and hit somebody over the head with it?
When the chips are down and lives are on the line, armed combat is always chosen over unarmed, unless arms are unavailable to one side. The only unarmed martial arts are those created to give the unarmed a chance against the armed, and wrestling just doesn’t meet that criterion.
It has not been a martial pursuit since the invention of arms, at the latest.
I don’t mean to say that it’s not worthwhile as a discipline or a sport, but it’s not a martial art.
“In a span of four hours, the athletes completed a 400 meter run, football throw, pull ups, 40 yard dash, dips, 500 meter row, vertical jump, 20 yard shuttle, bench press and an 800 meter run.”
Real men? I don’t see how a man could stay in shape for all that, work long hours at a demanding job, and still have time to do right by a wife and children.
Many military men have to stay in great shape, and work long hours.. Their families seem to be doing okay.
“Many military men have to stay in great shape, and work long hours.. “
I think you will find few military men who are in shape for a decathlon, and those you do find are going to be single, for the most part. You will find fewer dependents who think that they’re getting as much from their husbands and fathers as they should be. They make huge sacrifices.
In the Navy, when I was in, at least, the attitude was that you will work 24 hours a day and take care of your physical training, family, and sleep on your own time.
No, I’d be willing to bet there’s hardly a married man among these wall streeters.
“Their families seem to be doing okay.”
One thing I should have said: no, their families don’t seem to be doing okay. Some of them *seem* to be, but even those aren’t doing as well as you might think.
Military dependents have been notorious for bad behavior for at least 57 years that I personally know of. Adultery is epidemic. My boot camp company commander told the married men that when their ships returned to home port they would find their wives exactly like they left them: freshly f*cked.
Divorce. Suicide. Desertion. Alienation. Prolonged absence and exposure to traumatic events take their toll.
The husband and father who returns from war may not be the same man who left them.
No, I’m sorry, I can’t go along with “doing okay” as a blanket statement.
Some are doing splendidly, I’m sure, but even those have had to overcome great adversity.
First marital art.
They probably did some wrestling too.
What does “ridiculously cut” mean?
I don’t know. I guess they’re in really good shape. There was a much better article on bloomberg about this, but I chose not to credit them.
It’s nice that they had a sporting event and all, raised some money for charity. I just noticed the headline several times today, because I wondered what it meant.
“What does ridiculously cut mean?”
I think “cut” means to develop muscles and get rid of subcutaneous fat so that they are clearly visible under the skin.
Ah, I see. Thank you!
