I remember a push button starter like that. Don’t recall the make or year though. My dad had a push button transmission in his Fury (early 60s).

Yeah, I remember. I also remember that high beam switch would act up sometimes and I’d have to stomp on it a few times to get the headlights back to low.

I learned to drive on a vehicle that had two buttons on the floor. One was the high beam switch, the other was the starter. It was a WWII surplus jeep, made by Ford.

Dimmer switch for the headlights.

At least one of the many Oldsmobiles my Dad had sported *two* of those...one designed to be operated by the left food, the other by the right. The one on the right caused the radio to switch to the next higher (AM) station on the dial that had a good signal.

Of you look closely at that dimmer switch you will see exactly why they changed that design. That switch is all corroded from salt and debris. Probably doesn’t work, which is why they changed the design and location.

I STILL miss the high-beam on the floor. My left foot hovered over it and I could tap the high beams on/off instantly without moving my hands. Saddest day ever when they moved it to the one of the gazillion stalks on the column.

My step son borrowed my truck a few ago and told me there was no dimmer switch. I had to laugh.
