Because people who don’t get enough salt (sodium is an essential electrolyte) exhibit symptoms similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and make good little pliable drones.
Reminds me of some posters I’ve seen from the old Iron Curtain Countries.
Thanks for the mention. I hadn’t heard of that. It just bugs my how these busy-bodies want to micro-manage our lives. It’s got to be some sort of mental illness when it reaches this level of involvement.
Glad your doctor stepped in to set the dietitian straight.
I want the mac daddy sock puppet corrupt lying administration to go away ASAP.
Micro-fascism.
I eat a lot of salt and my blood pressure is normal.
FUBO.
In the early 1900’s, table salt was required to have iodide. They found that iodide was very important to the diet and salt was the one thing everybody used so it was a great way to make sure everyone got their required dose of iodide.
In related news, Americans would like their fascist occupiers to FO&D.
I’ve noticed that many countries which are thought to eat healthier diets, such as Japan, or the Mediterranean countries, also tend to use quite a bit of salt cured and pickled (naturally, with salt) foods. AFAIK, salt is really only a problem if you have (probably hereditary) high blood pressure.
There is an issue with salt content in many processed foods, though - you can hardly believe how much there is in a lot of them, despite the fact that they don’t seem to be particularly salty. You’d never add that much salt if you were cooking things yourself.
. . . I want the Goofer to snort lots more blow -
HBP runs in my family. So does AFib. I have both.
I take one medication that controls both.
After a hospital stay, I asked my doctor if I should go on a sodium restricted diet.
He said "Why?"
My BP is 135/75 BTW.
I buy salt to stockpile every time I go to the store, even though most of the family thinks that I don’t put enough salt in foods.
However, I’ll make sure I always have enough to use in case someone gets ridiculous. I also stock up on sugar every time it goes on sale.
Salt, Pepper, and Sugar last forever and our food would not be nearly as tasty if we had none.
