It has been almost a month since Meriam Ibriham was sentenced to 100 lashes and death by hanging by a Sudanese court that found her guilty of adultery for marrying a Christian and apostasy for refusing to denounce her Christian faith.
On Friday, June 13, Kerry issued a statement about Ibriham but fell short of demanding her release or offering her asylum in the United States, and no mention was made of her husband Daniel Wani, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen, or that their two children jailed with Ibriham are also U.S. citizens
Kerry then went on to express his support for Sudan and its people.

(AP Photo/Molly Riley) Sudans journey has long been a struggle, and back when I was still a United States Senator, I traveled to the region many times to help find greater understanding and hope for a different kind of future, Kerry said. As Secretary, I remain deeply committed to the country and its people.
That is one of the reasons we are all so concerned about the travails of Meriam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag, Kerry said.
While Kerry noted that Ibriham has two very young children in prison with her, he did not mention that her husband and children, Martin and Maya, are U.S. citizens, and did not demand that she and her children be released or that Ibriham can have asylum in the United States.

John Kerry: Once a chicken always a chicken.
You are wrong, of course. Are you not aware that he served in Viet Nam?/sarc.
No fricking way. Are you serious?
Or a Marine being held illegally in mexico? But then, what does Kerry know about serving.
She’d be wise to declare herself to be “gay”...and an atheist.
Kerry could not even bring himself to ask for Ibrahim’s release?
There are no words for what a disgrace our government has become.
That would definitely spurn this administration into action.
Kerry condemned the kidnapping of Naftali Fraenkel, Gil-Ad Shaer and Eyal Yifrach, calling it a despicable terrorist act.
But the MKs expressed disappointment that the Americans did not acknowledge their own role in causing the crisis. The MKs noted that American officials, led by Kerry, pressured Israel to free Palestinian prisoners as part of the recently suspended diplomatic process. One thousand members of the Hamas terrorist organization were released by Israel in exchange for Gilad Schalit.
They pushed for releasing more and more terrorists, and the kidnappings were the result, said Bayit Yehudi MK Orit Struck, who heads the Knessets Land of Israel caucus.
Following the kidnapping, Danon wrote Congresswoman Kay Granger, who chairs the influential State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee, urging her to respond to the kidnapping by ending United States aid to the PA.
