Word For The Day, Tuesday June 17, 2014
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Expatiate [ik-spey-shee-eyt]
-vi
1. to enlarge in discourse or writing; be copious in description or discussion.
2. Archaic. to move or wander about intellectually, imaginatively, etc., without restraint.
[153040; < Latin expatiātus past participle of ex ( s ) patiārī to wander, digress, equivalent to ex- ex-1 + spatiārī to walk about, derivative of spatium space; see -ate1
]
el asiento [ahs-ee-EHN-toh]
-adv
screen, monitor
Su asiento en el vuelo estaba al lado de la ventana.
His seat on the flight was next to the window.
Indeed.
And the angels keep taking their share too year after year too.
You are being generous with your Ls today.
Winner! I would also accept Lindsay Funke quoting her mother.
That's for bourbons. as you said. Other whiskeys do not char the barrells and hence are not bourbons.
Many of them, and other spirits like sherry, make use of used bourbon barrels.
My browser doesn’t underline it with one L or two.
Oh, s***-now Leonardo is an expert on “saving” the ocean because he was in the movie Titanic and rented some oil sheik’s yacht?
Barrells, burned and unburned are often used multiple times for multiple spirits.
A port wine barrell may become an Irish whiskey barrell and after that a rum or tequilla barrell.
I must be in a nonsense song mood this week-that one yesterday, and now I’m humming this one-
“I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you’re avoiding me
I’m okay alone but you got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out, you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key”...
I don’t know a lot about whiskey-but is Irish whiskey just made in Ireland, or is there something specific in the making or it that is different than Canadian whiskey, etc? I do understand that bourbon is made by a specific process, but is the same true for other whiskey?
I guess, in theory you could make any kind of whiskey (almost) anywhere in the world.
Canadian whiskeys contain rye and corn.
American whiskeys use corn.
Scotch whiskeys burn peat during the malting process.
Bourbon whiskeys char the barrell.
Irish whiskeys do none of the above and is distilled thrice (generally).
Excel and barrel. One L for each.
Now you’ve got the newlywed doing it!
I knew I should have just typed casks instead of the b word.
I am sure there are many laws defining these things. For example, bourbon, Kentucky bourbon and Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey are all different designations.
All around whiskeys are named by a combination of geography and processes.
Again, the browser didn’t complain about excell either.
Melanie. Who also sang Lay Down, and it was Woodstock era if I’m not mistaken.
You are pontificating today !!
